Hello all!

My name is Daniel T. and I just today bought some budgies... Very... Very cool to think of how much fun I will have with them.

Why did I get a budgie?
I've always wanted one, and so has my sister. My mother has allergies though... Finally she caved in, and today (September 9th) and is going to try. Hopefully she can get used to them and I can keep them. More on topic, my sister and I have always wanted, you know that. I wanted one because I want something that'll occupy my time instead of the computer. 'Avid Gamer' here. There seems to be no other pet that really grabs my attention.

Dogs - Too big, too expensive. Plus My parents already own two. Another would add to the chaos. On Bichon Frise (spelling?) and a German Shepard cross.

Cats - Used to own some, thanks to my Grandma who used to be a cat breeder. Again (I don't mean to sound like I'm bashing her allergies) her allergies prevented me from getting them.

Snake - My first choice. As soon as I asked 'her' she said no because she's really scared of them. I respect my mom and her decisions.

Turtle - I actually didn't bring this one up, my dad did. I don't know if it was sarcastic or not but I just didn't feel a turtle would 'fill the void', if you get what I mean.

Then we get into the birds. I went to Petland in Red Deer alberta, and we looked around. Lots of birds, cats, dogs,.... Ferrets... I took a look at the birds. There were two in this one big pen that were separated. I tried getting one to climb on my finger, A big, parrot-wannabe. A devious little bird too. I looked back while I finger still out, looking to answer my dad asking me something, I look back and I see him charging for my finger. Yeah... I want a nice bird.

So I went looking again. And lo and behold, the Budgies! They looked adorable, and I've read alot about them.

My parents got them for me for my birthday, which was yesterday (September 8th) so I've got a pretty good gift.

Although, in the end my parent's were $215 poorer when we left :P.

Got a lot of pics here. Sorry for the size. And sorry if they aren't any good.

Nice outside view of the cage we bought=

A shot of the very quiet 'Flower' (My sisters yellow budgie) and my Budgie (Lucky. Got the name for a peculiar spot on the back of his head.. Looks exactly like a horsehoe. You can see it in the shot.) =

That cage looks cool but... Hanging from the ceiling like it does, it moves around alot and the birds get a scared.

It's maddening to try and keep your hand in a spot and trying to relax at the same time. Your arm falls asleep. :P

Hey Daniel,

I'm so glad you joined us on the forum and that you are very happy being a first time Budgie owner. Isn't it fun???? :)

I bet your sister is just as excited as you are. What room do you keep your Budgies in? It sounds like you are enjoying learning how to care for them, from what I've read in your other posts.

Keep up the good work, Daniel.

Hi, Daniel. Welcome to the site. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. There are a lot of fun people here and a lot of good information.

Neat cage and beautiful birds. I'm sure you'll be a good "parent" to them.

Re: your Mother's allergies. I can sympathize with your situation. I got my first parakeet when I was 12, I think. (Around the time the calendar was invented.) His name was Pete. Basic green American bird. I had him for about six months when we discovered that my Mother was allergic to the bird SEED. Not the bird. She was, also, allergic to the two dogs we had. Needless to say, my brother and I were not very happy when we had to get rid of the family pets, but, that is something you learn to live with. I hope your Mom's allergies are not so severe that it will interfere with your having birds. They bring so much pleasure.

Again, welcome aboard.
