Hello Everyone!!!!
I am sooooooo excited. I bought my first 2 Budgies on June 10th of this year. Then on August 4th, I just couldn't resist and ended up buying me a 3rd. This one is yet to be named but I am finally coming close to making a decision.
Anyway, when I bought my first 2 Budgies, I just by chance was able to get one of them to take a bath. And that only happened once. I was so excited when it happened though, because I felt like I had really made progress. It was my Budgie "Beaker" who was brave enough to take that first plunge. He loved it so much that he kept jumping in over and over again. But once he was done, I could never get him to take a bath again. I actually posted some pictures of Beaker taking his bath, a couple of days ago.
Now, as of last night, I was sitting at my computer when all of a sudden I heard a noise. Would you believe my newest Budgie was messing around with her water container that hangs on the side of the cage? I only watched her a little bit when I finally realized that she was trying to stick her feet in and climb in so I had this burst of excitement, feeling that if I grabbed a container to hold in my hand, she might actually try and take a bath. I ended up using a little plastic dish that I use to catch the excess water from my plants. Awhile back, I remember reading that Budgies like to spread their wings while taking a bath, so I knew that I quickly needed to find something shallow (yet large enough in width) that would allow her to accomplish such a feat. I also remember (when I first joined the forum) seeing Budgiekin's photo where she was holding a dish in the air and was giving her Budgie a bath - so I thought I'd try it the same way. Would you believe that when I came back into the room with the warm water in the dish, my new Budgie was waiting at the cage door as if she totally understood what I was doing? She was so excited that as soon as I held out the dish, she JUMPED right in. I wish I could have taken pictures at that very moment because it was so funny and exciting. Since I couldn't hold a camera and a dish at the same time, I had to take my photos immediately following the bath. And my Budgie didn't just jump in the dish once, she jumped in over and over and over again. In fact, she rolled in the water, dipped her head in, kept flapping her wings, and just had a great ole time. It was hilarious!!!! :D
Anyway, I couldn't wait any longer - but just had to share some photos with you. At this point I am assuming my Budgie is a female but it is a little too soon to tell yet.
Hope you enjoy these. This is such a thrill because I've been wondering if any of my Budgies would ever want to take a bath and now I know that at least one LOVES it. Oh ya, one more thing. My other 2 Budgies were so curious when they saw my newest Budgie standing in the water, that they came running full force too, and both hopped on the edge of the dish. I had all 3 of my Budgies on the dish at the same time, but only the newest one jumped in. :D
