Please Help!

:budgie: My female budgie Sunshine is breeding right now and she has 3 eggs so far but yesterday she became egg bound and an egg had been stuck but after I had put her in a warm box with vegetable oil auround her vent, she had the egg but she is flightless she can not fly any more not even get off the floor she has to climb.Does anyone know the reason for this?Please Help?:S

I am glad you were able to help your budgie girl get through her egg-binding situation. Many people would not have known what to do. Good job!

Sometimes when a budgie becomes egg-bound, it can have an effect on the nerves in her body, most often in the legs; the nerve damage that results is usually permanent. I don't think that would be the case with your sweetie because she is still able to walk and climb. The only other thing I can think of that may be related to an egg-binding event is a hernia, however I was not able to find much information about the symptoms of it. I somehow don't think it is related to that either. I'm stumped!

I would certainly recommend that you bring her to an avian vet to make sure she is okay. Is she eating? Does she show an interest in the eggs that she has laid already? Does she look like she is in pain? Has anything else changed?

My only concern is that if she were to lay another egg, she would be weakened from her recent egg-binding event and may not be able to pass any subsequent eggs as easily as she should (not that laying an egg that size would EVER be easy).

In the meantime, I would recommend keeping her warm so that she stays comfortable. Please let us know how she is doing!

Yes Sunshine is eating and showing intrest in her eggs thats her in the picture abive.I dont thnik she is going to lay anymore eggs. Thanks for the Help.

Is Sunshine flying again?

No she is not flying but she is still taking care of the eggs they are due next week I am so exited!:) but sad that she will be paralized in the wings for the rest of her life......:(

Yes she does have nerve damage but I hope the babies hatch because after this she will be retired from breeding because of her wing paralization she will just be a pet and i will keep all her babies:( It has been a long time for her she has had 21 babies through her life:) So I am proud of her she has been a great mom!And will be a great grandmother lol....
