hi there, my budgie is raising her 2 young at the moment this is her first clutch for the season (i got her form a pet shop about a month ago and she pretty much launched into making babies asap) her cere has gone from chocolate brown to a whiteish colour why is this? is this normal or is she going out of breeding condition? i thought they kept laying until you take the nest box out (or at least 2 -3 clutches) or is she lacking something in her diet?

Nothing is wrong with her or her diet. Its normal. I have two females that do this often and they've never breed yet. When there cere is brown (if I can put this in the correct word) when its brown there more fertile or in other words if a male and her haves bird sex. More likely she'll become pregant than when her cere is white. Correct me anybody if I'm wrong! Lots of other people has asked the same thing also. Your not alone on this subject. Good luck with your new birds. Just make sure there well taken care of and getting vitimans. So there health stay healthier. Speacily for the female. I would not let her have babies after babies. Unless thats all what she is for, is to just breed. You can damage her life spand if she is non stop breeding. I would get more research done if your new to these birds.

what i was more wanting to know is i thought birds breed again straight away after the babies leave the nest (please dont think im breeding them to death) what i wanted to know is if her cere is now white does that mean she will want to continue to breed or will she stop until she is in condition again, just trying to prepare for what may/not happen in a few weeks when baby leaves the nest is all. this is the first one i have breed and just trying to sort out all my info now as all i have read etc says once they breed they carry on one clutch after the other till nestbox is removed. thanks

i have some hens that will go right into another clutch as soon as the first baby fledges, with the rest still in the box! (be carfull of this, mom can get agressive with the babies that are left in the box) and i have other hens that have no interest in mating until all the babies are gone.
with her cere going white, she will probably mate again, after the clutch is all done & fledged
