Hello everyone
When I was a child my parents always had Budgies but I was never really into birds till my nephew gave me his 11 week old budgie about 4 months ago and since then I have been besotted. Hes tame however he does have the tendancy to bite a bit and it does hurt lol, I spend a lot of time with him but thought it would be nice if he had company so I have bought a little baby budgie who is 11 weeks from a breeder and I think I have done something really wrong well here goes I didnt know that you had to seperate them at first and I let Joey into the cage with Eddie straight away and Eddie is pecking Joey all the time so I am wondering whetehr I may need to get another cage or is it too late now as they have met etc...only bought Joey last night. Also Eddie is biting harder then normal on me..what do you think I should do.
Thanks pps
Dinky

He's trying to be superior. He is testing you when he bites. Just ignore it and it should stop after awhile. You should separate them if you can. Eddie doesn't like it that some one is just in "his" cage. It's his home and he didn't get any say in having guests. After a few weeks, try to get them together again. May be outside of the cage. Put the two cages next to each other so they can get to know each other first. Hope this helps.

Hi,
Welcome to the Budgie Forum, Redgirl.
I can easily relate to your problem with the two Budgies not getting along. It will pass quickly, I'm sure. In June I just bought my first 2 Budgies (from the same store at the same time) and put them in a cage together and they got along great. Then about a month later, I bought a 3rd Budgie and put him in a separate cage. The cages were and still are only about 2 feet away from each other.
After a couple of days of my Budgies being in the same room, I decided to let my first 2 out to play and they climbed right up to the new Budgie's cage. I didn't let the new one out because I figured they needed to get used to each other. My two Budgies that were playing, kept biting the feet of the new one through the cage bars and so it was a few more days before I finally let them all out to play on the floor together. When I finally did put them all together, they did great and have done well ever since. Now they all meet together in the newest Budgies cage and hang out together. It's so cute to see them playing together and getting along.
So don't worry. Just give your two guys some time apart and then let them slowly get close to each other. Since your first Budgie was there first and did not have to share his space with anyone, I'm sure it will take a little time before he adjusts to your newest one. But he'll soon realize he has a playmate and they'll probably end up being best of buddies. :D And yes, I agree with Dinky. Your first Budgie is just trying to let the newest Budgie know that he's superior, ha!
Also, they say to quarantine your birds when you first get them if you bought them from different places because one could be ill or have mites or something and it could infect the other one. So that's another good reason to keep them apart. I believe the quarantine time is 40-45 days.
Let me know how it goes.
