Just checked the box for the last time tonight and...one of my Lila's eggs is currently moving!!! I do not presume that I will be going to bed anytime soon ;) Any advice? Should I leave a stronger nightlight on? I usually cover her cage, leave a crack and have the over the sink light on in my kitchen (only since she has been nesting). Is that enough light for her to feed the itty bitty? I am already late in covering them up tonight but I will wait a little longer.
Mine seem to feed the babies fine when in the dark... I always forget to leave a night light on

Okay, that makes me feel better. She gets spooked in the dark on occasion. Since she has been brooding her eggs, I have left a little crack of light just in case so she would not damage any of them. I am going to assume that will be enough. It is going to be hard to cover her right now but, I am already off schedule and I want her to feel "normal". :)

Okay. I am sitting here in the dark like a budgie baby stalker. My husband truly believes I have lost my mind and have left him for my birds and this website. He has spent his evenings alone as I obsess over my birds.
Lila is moving about a bit so I do feel that my wobbly egg is either in the process of hatching or will be soon. It is 1 a.m. here in Michigan. I think I will leave my lovely girl alone. Quite frankly, I do not know what I am waiting for as I have no intention of bothering them in the night without provocation. I guess I am just a bit excited. I am hoping all goes well. Luckily I have supersonic hearing and sleep like a feather so if I hear a problem with Lila I can run in to check it out. Goodnight to any of you still on and Good morning or afternoon to those of you outside the U.S.

The saga continues this a.m. I am trying to check for this possible baby, but if I am even in 45 block vacinity Lila jumps right back in. That however gives me a good feeling that something may have happened. I do not hear anything yet. I am waiting until she is out so I don't scare her and she tramples said itty bitty. Here's hoping!!!!!!
Softie I am really excited to spoil them. My daughter and I already bought a budgie playscape in hopes that our wee ones will do well. As for my husband...he is probably happy to watch sportscenter in lieu of So You Think You Can Dance. Uninterupted control of the remote is Golden to him. Hopefully he will forgive me my crazy :) I hope to haves pictures if all goes well!

How exciting! i hope she comes out soon for a stretch and some food so you can have a peek! Is daddy being a good daddy, feeding and all that?
We've been watching so you think you can dance also, funny thing is though that hubby made us watch it... he likes the begining when all the idiots are on (like idol LOL) then we get sucked in watch the rest! LOL

i hope everything goes well and by the way how many eggs are there?
I once got to watch one of mine hatch, its amazing. The baby was struggling a little, the top was off the egg but it seemed to be stuck in the bottom half of the shell so the Dad bit off a piece of the shell and the baby fell out. it was so cute.

Well I am still waiting on my little hatchie. Last I checked was about 1 1/2 hours ago and there was still a wobbler in there. I had guests over today and I barricaded my dining room like I was keeping the Hope Diamond in there.
Unfortunatly my Daddy Bird Tommy is a bit on the narcissistic side and was not doing his job. Aside from right before mating, he really has never preened, kissed or fed her. She was asking to be fed and he only did it one time. Over the course of many days of her asking he just would not do it. I am very surprised they had babies at all.
He also threw the first egg and Lila attacked him. It was not a pretty scene. I thought he was going to die as he lost quite a bit of blood and had labored breathing. He is doing well now and has a scar where the feathers will not grow back. Unfortunatly though...this leaves the job to her. He visits her outside the cage and it is generally a fine visit. Yesterday she did try to get at him again but the bars stopped her from doing too much damage. Don't think I can put him back. I think it is too risky. Any thoughts?
We have 5 eggs (although one I am not so sure about). I am getting ready to check it out now if my little lady is willing. Here's hoping. Today is day 21. ;)
P.S. Love so you think you can dance!!!

However many are fertile remains to be seen as I did not candle. However, since it is moving by itself I am going to guess someone is trying to bust out of at least that one. There is one that was laid many days prior to the others and I do not believe it is fertile. However. she really did not sit on them until 1/2 were laid so there is still a chance for that one too.

I've read some where Can't remember where though, that when it is close to time of hatching you can actually see movement, I haven't gotten this lucky though :(
I missed one of the babies being born by like 2 or 3 mins, I got to see it all wet though lol
I just had another egg from my Albino hen X Grey Spangle male hatch today and it was laid 23 days ago ( i noticed the day before yesterday 2 of hers were turning black i think thats another sign of being close to hatching)
So there's still hope for yours :D

That is good to know that you can see movement. I saw it move yesterday and today and I was getting concerned that it has still not hatched. Hopefully that just means that it is really close. I imagine it is not that easy to hatch. My oldest egg is 31 days. The others are 21, 20, 19 and 15 days old. Pretty sure she was too inconsistant in sitting on the 31 day egg, but you never know. She has been very diligent since the 3rd (technically 4th...Tommy broke the first one) was laid. Prior to that I think she was stressed that he was gone and finally adjusted in time to lay the rest.

normally they don't even sit on the eggs until the 2nd one is laid, Sometimes not until the 3rd is laid, So they say start counting from the time she starts sitting on them
But so far i've gotten lucky and all mine have sat on them from the very 1st egg which made it much easier for me to count the days down
but they're also supposed to lay every other day
and most of mine have had one every day

That is what I thought so I am still holding out hope for the first one. She would go in the box then be out for hours, then go back in and not go in at night. Assuming she was only continuing to get the nest ready...there is still a chance. If she was just being inconsistent, then I don't think I will have much luck with that one. The others should be good. I wrote down the lay dates and stuck with that because she laid the majority a day apart. Not counting the first egg , putting the next one at 20 days vs 21 makes me feel better. As does your 23 day hatchling.

have you candled them lately?
enicol6

I have not candled them recently. I tried in the begininning and bought two different flashlights but I was no good at it. I would think it was then I would think it wasn't so I left it alone. Either way, I was not going to take them out because I did not want her to keep laying. I know for sure at least that one is fertile. I am not the only one who witnessed the movement so I know I am not seeing things. I hope that it is strong enough to bust thorugh when and if the time comes. I do believe the one that broke was fertile as it has a little circle ring on the yolk. I figured that gives all the others the possibility.
