Hey guys,

Just an update. Since i got chipe last saturday and for the five days i had had him, i have done at least 4-5 trainign sessions a day with him. He has since then learned to say "chipie" and "hello", but in wispers. Now i am teaching him to speak louder so i can get recordings for you and add them to my next article, 'teaching budgies to talk'.

Ok, Now today when i got home from TKD (tae kwon do) i found chipie on his cage roof. Sicne i got him chipie would not move a muscles from his top left hand corner position. The doors are always open and the cage has no roof. Now he is on top, i was so happy :p :D ;) :o , he finaly knows that he has freedom and that he does not have to be afraid of us. He has settled in really nicley and quickly.

Oh by the way chipie is a 3-4month old baby i got of my auntie that i am actualy teaching to speak fully and do tricks. I have spent countless hours on him and i will show the worl that budgies are not stupid birds in cages. The reason i dont get birds from my work (LPS) is becasue they are all agro there and are wild caught. Home bred IMHO is best.

Just thought you might want to know :).

Hey! Sorry this is off topic, but I do TKD too! I just started a couple months ago so I'm a white belt. How far up in the levels are you?

Sounds like you've got quite the training schedule for Chipie! That's great! It is obviously working. How long do each of your sessions usually last?

Yes, I would like to know how long each session is also, wow, you taught him to talk in one week, that is awsome.

I don't do TKD, but my 6 year old daughter does, and I sit in a watch. I do learn alot watching them, and I have to do the routines with her at home for practice. Well, let me correct that, she used to be in TKD. She was in it for months before Hurricane Katrina and Rita. After that, they closed the school for a while, and we just never went back. I need to find out if they re-opened and where the new meeting place is. Almost a year later, and people are still having to live in campers, with relatives and such. O.K. That was WAAAYYYY off topic. Sorry about that, my thoughts just wandered off.

Hey guys, sorry it took so long, several birds where injured in my backyard from my dog and i had to take them to the rspca.

I am now 2nd dan and am going for my 3rd. I have done it my whole life and i love nothign else than armed and unarmed combat (and birds :) )

Training sessions last 20-30 minutes each. The this i have that many others dont or dont try to do it have a real conection. I look at my birds in the eyes. I touch them, bring them to my face let them feel my lips move. Its a connection that takes commitment and time, its kindove liek sublivonal messages tgelling the birds its safe.

AngleBuck, im sorry for what happened over there i actualy donated some money to funds that where sent over there. I feel very bad for everything there. We also get our fair share of hurricans but not as bad. My thoughts go out to you all.

My god one week to talk! Does he use his throat noise to talk or is he talking in chirps? Budgies are sooo not stupid. My Alfie can say loads of stuff. He's really building up his vocab now! Listen to some of my recordings in the 'budgie talk' section. They arnt that recent though

You said you leave your cage door open? I do that too but only when someone is home, from the sounds of it you leave it open all the time? We used to do that as a nice gesture to make my budgie not feel locked up all the time, but one time we came home and found him all the way in the basement.

its always best to put them back in their cage when your not home. Any little thing can spook them, and they can take off and fall behind something. even if they didnt hurt themselves, struggling to get out can wear them out & kill them if doing it for too long.
i live in earthquake country, the good old ring of fire! and there is no way i would leave them out when im not there. when we had the last big one, the patio window broke, so i am so worried it will happen when im not home & the cats will get loose! *shudders at the thought!*
