Hi

Our male budgie Arnie does'nt seem at all interested in mating with our female budgie Zena. They have been together for over 8 months and he is 18 months old she is 10 months old.

She constantly chases him around our flat looking for affection but he only seems interested in protecting her. The occasional kiss he gives her but thats it. We have added a box for over 3 months now but they both seem disinterested in going in it. We have taken their toys away also.

She is completely tame but he isnt as we got her a few months before him and tamed her no problem. We would love to keep them together but want to breed them. We had a pair of budgies years ago which bred without any problem.......can't seem to work these 2 out!

Can anyone help?

Thanks for taking time to read this.

Your little sweety Zena sounds just a tad too young to be breeding yet...ideally she would be 14 months old minimum....I would hold off for a few months on trying to breed the two of them.

When they are mature enough to breed, yes, you want to provide them with a nest box, which you already have. You also want to make sure they have exposure to about 14 hours/day of daylight....
