We have a lot of helpful and friendly members here at TB. Their efforts are not always acknowledged as much as they should be. So, to show our gratitude and appreciation for our members, we have created the Member of the Month contest.
Here's how it works:
Each month, we (the staff) will be on the lookout for the next MOTM. During the last week of the month, we will discuss who we think should be the winner. Toward the beginning of the next month, the winner will be announced and they will be declared the Member of the Month. So for our first contest, we will begin looking tomorrow, June 1st. The winner will be announced on or about July 1st and will remain MOTM for July.
[/SIZE] Some other rules:
This will be done by staff selection to eliminate the chance of members playing "favorites." We feel this is the fairest method. The staff will come to an agreement on each winner.
If you are a winner, you will not be eligible for another year to give others a chance to win.
Winners will be chosen on the following criteria:
Length of membership
Quantity of posts
Quality of posts
Budgie knowledge is a plus, but is not required
Overall attitude, personality, etc. (Example: is this member friendly to new members? Do they welcome new members? etc.)
Activity rate - how often to you visit, how often do you post, etc.
Winners will receive the following:
An italicized username, to help identify you as a MOTM. You will keep this effect for the remainder of your membership, unless you choose to return to the normal effect after one month.
A set of colored wings! (We haven't decided the color yet...)
Instead of the usual ranks: egg, hatchling, etc., you will receive the title of Member of the Month.
We might add more perks as we think of them...
How can you win?
You can win by being as helpful, active, and friendly as you can be! We're not asking you to answer every single question posted on the forums, but you need to post on a regular basis in order to qualify. Also, the quality of your posts will be taken into account as well. The member who makes 10 quality posts/articles will probably win over the member who makes 50 one-line posts. Of course, this might not always be the case, but it will be a factor involved in the judging. To sum it up: make good posts, and you might win!
We also don't want this to become a hassle for anyone. Please don't stay up through the night answering all the questions just to try to win. If you make a normal effort to try to win, we will notice. Going out of your way to stand out will probably just wear you out.
How will this contest benefit our community?
This contest will increase post the amount of posts and the quality of our content. This will help new and experienced budgie owners alike gain more insight into taking care of their budgies. This will also hopefully help everyone become better, more informed pet owners. Finally, this contest will hopefully lighten up the atmosphere and help to tone down any drama that might exist.
When does this begin?
It will begin tomorrow (or today if you're from down under) June 1st. The first winner will be announced on or about July 1st.
If you have any questions or comments, just let us know!
