View Full Version : Going to the vets...
Over the past day i've been a little concerned about Ozzie's health. He's always been fairly quiet but today he's not been going to the toilet as often as usual and mostly he's only doing the white and liquid parts and not the solid poop bit. :( He has still been doing a few normal poops too but i'd rather be safe than sorry so i got dad to book him in for an appointment with the avian vet tomorrow afternoon, i hope there's nothing too wrong with him. :(

Hi Bea. I hope everything with Ozzie is okay. I would definitely like to hear how the visit to the vet goes, so please fill us in. Good luck to you and your little sweetie! Fingers are crossed!
Oh dear! Poor Ozzie, I hope he's okay. If he's ill then I bet you would be glad you put him in quarantine or you would of had 2 sick budgies!
I hope he's alright and hasn't got anything wrong with him.
I'm sorry to hear that Bea! I hope everything's okay. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

oh no.... please let us know whats going on.... I:sad3: hope everything is going to be ok
Yeah Bea, I really hope everything will be OK.
I've got my fingers crossed to.
I feel really sorry for you.
Maybe you might have to have Ozzie in quaranine until he gets better?:(
Oh tell us how it goes and whats wrong when you find out.
Poor Ozzie!
He's still not 'going' properly. I'm thinking that i've caught whatever he has early so it shouldn't be too hard to treat. I'll let you all know what the vet says.
Well Ozzie has been treated for worms and psittacosis (the vet suggested it could be either and so both were treated). My poor darling baby had to get an injection for the psittacosis and he was such a brave boy, hardly squirmed and no squawking. Once the vet was finished he scrambled straight to my finger for a big cuddle and kiss. :) He's started eating properly and his poops have already started to improve, i hope he keeps getting better.
Unfortunately this means that quarantine has to restart. Oh well, better safe than sorry!

I'm glad to hear that Ozzie has been put on a treatment plan. I am sure he will be feeling a whole lot better very soon. I'm so glad you took him in to get him checked out; you never can tell with budgies sometimes. Good job Bea!
It was so cute to hear that he was such a big boy for his injection and that he went to you for cuddles afterwards. He obviously trusts you. What a sweetheart!
Aww what a brave boy! Sorry to hear about the quarantine restart!
I hope he recovers soon and I'm glad that he is improving a bit.
I'm glad to hear he's improving! Sorry about the extended quarantine though.
Yeah you must be feeling really annoyed! I know how much you want them to be together soon!
Well Ozzie's perked right up this morning and he's eaten AND he's not done a single runny poop, they've all been perfect little targets! :p I'm so happy! :D Asuming he was ill from when i got him i'm wondering if now he'll show his true personality....i'm certain there's no such thing as a quiet budgie!
I'm glad he's feeling better and I hope none of your budgies will ever get ill again!

Hi Bea. I'm just curious to know what they did at the vet to find out what the problem was with Ozzie. I assume they did a fecal gram stain? Did they do other tests?
He didn't do any tests, that did have me wondering a bit but he seemed to really know what he was doing. I think he basically took into account that Ozzie was a baby and was unlikely to have been wormed. He also looked at the droppings and although he said psittacosis turns them more green he gave Ozzie the anti-bacterial meds just to be safe.
I bet you knew more about budgies than than him, your a budgie EXPERT! Really you are!

Kiss's to ozzy
No, he's been an avian vet for YEARS, i trusted him. :) Ozzie's gone back to runny poos again. :( Though he did just do a normal one since he's been out on his rope perch.

hmmm, maybe the injection has not taken effect did they say how long it would take for him to feel better, or for the meds to take effect?
Get Better ozzie
Hope he gets better soon. :(
Hmm....he's really confusing! Again, overnight he did perfect poops and then this morning back to runny ones.

Take him back to the vets just to be on the safe side
There's no way in the world dad will take me again. He seems to be doing 95% normal poops now. I think it could've been partly related to diet, i was adding pellets to his seed (which i don't think he's used to), i've stopped feeding him pellets for now and it seems to have helped...

great news I have never been a real fan of the pellets as we have plenty of seed and natural grasses here in Australia. A great thing for your budgie is gum leaves as in the wild they use these to get their fluids and the gums have medicinal qualities for the birds
Yeah, all my budgies enjoy gum leaves....the aviary budgies can strip a large branch in about 15mins!!
