I have an appointment for the vet for June 7th, but I was wondering if there is anything I can do now to stop them, I've heard something about petroleum jelly before but I'm not sure if it's safe. Can anyone who has experienced this before give me some advice on what to do?

You can use petroleum jelly, but make sure you don't get it into their eyes, mouth and nostrils.
Do you have pictures of them with scaley mites you can show us?

i used paraffin oil, applied once a day until the mites had cleared. if your budgie is with other isolate him immediately and you will have to remove the perches you have in the cage and clean the whole thing out because scaly mite burrow in the wood until it's time to latch onto another budgies face. anyway good luck and keep us posted!!;)

This is kind of a horrible picture (my camera sucks) and my budgie is moulting right now, she's 6 months. She has a weird growth near her eye and when you look closely it's like lots of little bumps with tiny holes in them. I couldn't get a picture of her lower beak but it's kinda flakey and on one side it looks kinda like when a termite eats holes in a piece of wood and the bark comes off and leaves little trails. Do you know what I'm talking about? Lol it's hard to explain. But she has termite looking trails and the base of her bottom beak.

Can you use paraffin oil near the eyes?? And also she has been with another budgie for a long time do I need to treat him too? Or just wait for signs to appear then treat him? Do I seperate them just until she clears up or do I wait and see if he shows signs too? Sorry lots of questions :S I heard it takes 6 to 12 months to show up though.

Take to the vet is best so they can get them on treatment soon
and if housed with one better take that one in to just in case
it is there but not seen starting
best to be cautious
