is if i get rid of my other birds :( :( :(
i dont think i am gonna do it though, because i LOVE all my birds and think it would be cruel to make them go to new homes......
maybe i will get an amazon or somethin and then i could still keep budgies and tiel and maybe amazon...
if any one could tell me other kinds of parrots that arent SO expensive besides a
cockatoo
macaw
thanks!!!

PLZ don't get rid of your budgies, they trust u 2 look after them till the end of their life. My suggestion is keep on saving for a few years till u can get a job, dont know wot age that is to be able to work in USA but it's 14 in Australia, and raise even more money from their, as long as it dusn't clash with school, and keep on raising money till then.
I dont get it, do people think bigger birds are better because they're larger, live longer or what cauze I see Budgies as one of the best and most intelligent of the bird species, they can talk, they come in a huge range of colours, they're not very pricey AND they dont need as much looking after and they are probably easier, r these not enough reasons for u coz ther's more, I coud ramble on all day but I won't it's just I think u should keep ur birds and maybe get the bigger bird aswell.
What if ur large bird gets too untame, in ur senior schooling years u will get lots of tests and assignments. If u dont spend enough time with it, it will bite and get untame!
Are you selling them to gain money to go towards the bigger bird or are u selling ur birds to make room for the new bird?
My personal choice is budgies. I hope U keep ur budgies! I hope u also make the decisiion that u think is right.
Oh please don't leave! We will really miss you here. Budgies are the best birds, cheap, small and easy to look after. Not only that, they get attached to their owners. If you give them away, they will miss you loads. You are giving them a great life, so why not keep them and when you get older get another type of bird, besides you might not even want a big parrot that lasts for ages then.
You are such a good member, always on and very friendly. If you do leave, then make sure you visit regularly. :crying:
Best of Luck, Choose best,
Amy.

I think you should look after the pets you have now. You don't get rid of your pets because you think there is something bigger or better out there. There are too many pets (dogs, cats and birds) out there without homes. They are killed by the millions every years because people get them and then don't want them.
Please think long and hard before getting a large bird. They are noisy, messy and need a lot of space for there very large cage. They require a lot more time and money. They live for a very long time....it is a very big commitment!
I too think budgies are the best of the birds to keep as pets.

im going to choose to keep my mouth shut on this one
Be careful what you say guys....:) Be nice....Tiki<Polly there is always cheaper parrots like green cheek conures...even love birds they are almost like parrots you said you had 300.00 right....you could buy about 3 -4 for that! There great bird! They can talk or a cocktail?I would go with lovebirds there are so many colors I love them my self I want a pair!Buy a little hand fed one they make great pets!
The best talkers for two to three hundred dollars are (in my opinion), Quaker Parrots. They are small-- about cockatiel sized. They talk very well, and very clear, but they are usually limited to five or six syllables. Most can't say big, long sentences-- like Amazons. My Quaker says things like: "I love you baby." and: "Whatcha doin' baby?" and: "Good Job!" etc. He can't really handle anything more than three or four word sentences. They aren't real colorful birds, but they are mischieveous, funny, very loyal and great to bond with. They'll preen you and groom you for long periods of time without being bored. I used to have Amazons. They are wonderful birds, but so much more expensive. We also have a cockatiel. He's wonderful. He mimics noises very well, and ours says a couple of words with a scratchy little voice. He's very comical and LOVES other birds and us. I hope you don't leave us!! I would miss you, as I'm sure everyone would!!

Let's sign for a petition not for Tiki<3Polly to do it. It would be a real shame leaving this forum and sending your budgies packing. If you love your budgies and care for birds so much then your heart will find the true answer.
Just remember that it's not you that would be heading to a new home as it's your budgies. How would they feel! :(

Hello,
I used to have a YCM (yellow collared macaw) who was a perfect one person birdie (I even started the newsgroup rec.pets.birds because of him!). I ended up having to give him up when my second child was born, as he had gotten very jealous and possessive of me and always wanted to chow down on baby fingers. I gave him to http://www.nancyweaver.name , and when she passed away, drove him and his mate up to a birdieRescue in MA where they both live to this day.
One reason why I far prefer budgies now at this stage in my life is besides being wonderful clowns like all parrots, their plop is small and easy to clean. Their personalities are 'way bigger than their bodies as well.
However, I can certainly understand the lure of bigger birdies, having owned one myself. I think if your heart is set on that, and you cannot return back to budgieLove, finding a person who would take the same care and love of your budgies is wise. All birdies deserve to be valued.
Times change, people change, people grow. These things happen. It can't be 'wished back' sometimes. Thus, behave with honor towards your current budgies, and find them homes with people who would treasure them. 'Course, you could always get a huge cage and let them fly around there as well (something I'll do if I ever start budgieRescues).
Data points,
Barbara
:( Thats sad that such a good person passed away...all the good people die first than the bad its not fair:( Well its up to you Tiki<3 Polly do you know that a Macaw or Cockatoo basically like getting a dog? They are huge, noisy, need tones of attention, eat alot, expensive and need vet care just like anything else...:) They arent like budgies love birds and tiels...Think about this seriously.

glad to see you decided to keep your pets. big parrots are a HUGE responsability. there are way too many that were bought on a whim, then the new owners decide they cant handle the noise and the mess etc.
do you parents have any experience with big birds? they are like having a 2 year old child for more years than you will be a child at home, and then some! what would your plans be after school ends, will you go to university? you wouldnt be able to take him with you.
just some thoughts, they may be pretty, but if you are not experienced with them, they why get one?
but anyway, glad to hear you will be a good owner and stick with the responsabilitys you chose to honor when you got your budgies, they are not disposable

I'm glad also that you are staying. You are young and have plenty of time to get a bigger bird....someday! Maybe one day when you have your own place and you have the space to house a large bird you can rescue one. In the mean time I wish you all the best with your budgies. Budgies are the best!!
