Welcome Magictweet
Welcome there Magictweet ^^ I hope you that you like it here! I be Lace. And yea, in my advise, the best place to get a budgie if from a small pet store the knows the history of your new budgie (its age, its sex, where it came from (like weather it was imported or bought of a breeder) you kno, the basic stuff, or any pet store with that info. I always find it much more conveniat to know the history of a budgie before you bring it home.

Hi & Welcome,
your best bet would be to find a local breeder, that way you know how they are raised, and the parents etc. you could also try looking in the paper/classifieds, you will be amaized how many birds are given away, sometimes cage and all.
Goodluck & keep us posted!

chain stores arent always bad. some are run very well and kept nice and clean. it all depends on the manager of the store and how much he cares about the well being of the animals i suppose. i have been to small stores that i have been disappointed with. i got my two budgies from the local petco near me (like 2 mins away). the location pretty much settled it for me as it ensured the quickest transition from store to home. the store was decent in how clean it was as well. not great, not terrible. i say that only to make the point that it is possible to get one from a chain store that is healthy and tame-able.
that said, breeders are better, and adoption, if you can find an adoption center, would be another viable solution. the advantage to adoption is that sometimes, you end up with a bird already tamed. they arent abandoned always because they have problems; many times its because of difficult situations with the people in care such as health reasons or travel/work etc. look around, and dont be too quick to judge or just take what people say at face value. you'll know you've found the right one when you see him/her. :) happy hunting
O thanks Alfie! and no, i didnt draw the image of Akita, but i drew the wing and heart and such ^^ im planning on drawing a sig though soon. ^^
O and yes! Breeders and adopting is the best way! i dont have any around here... hence the reason i only mentioned a small pet store as a good place. srry ^^;
But im very content with my pet store and i have personally talked to the owner, who is usually there, about it and i know she cares deeply for her animals there. She wont even sell a budgie to anyone unless she knows what food they plan on buying, the size of the cage and everything to ensure the budgie goes to an exceptable home. Its a really good small pets store, and isnt a chain store ( i dont like getting them at chain stores...) So i love it. ^^
Hey Kim! Welcome to the site :) .
