My daughter decided the grass just isnt green enough here at home about six weeks ago and moved out... She likes where she is at and I dont think she is coming back.... So time to move on........:sadparty:
So I am seriously thinking of a bird room for my five birds... Two Parakeets, One Pigeon and two Ringneck Doves....
The room is about 8X12 and 8 feet high.. One good size window... two doors, one that will remain shut at all times for now...
I want to put the two cages in there, as well as some plants (safe plants)... The floor is carpet and I would keep it that way for now... I wont be putting anything on it... The window will need a screen put in it, for summer...
What else? All Ideas are welcome... thanks
Below are some pics, I will leave the shelves up... Make good perching areas...

Ask cliff123 or atvchick95. I believe that both have bird rooms...

I suggest taking the shelves down unless your birds come to you on command
I had to take down all curtain rods and i took down the blindes ( i took those down when i realized they were made of metal and not plastic like the ones through out the rest of the house) but the hardware(which is plastic) is still up on the wall from the blindes and we use the ones for the rods to hold the lacey type curtins but they still perch up on the top of the curtains and i have to use a old attachment for a vaccume to get them down because I can't reach.
Bird rooms are awesome (at least i think so i'm not bias or nothing lol) I have several cages I even have a thing my b/ f built to put the smaller cages on (like how you can buy 4 breeding cages and they sometimes come with a shelf to stack them on) but its got the cages and it holds our plastic tubs of food, and toys its on one side of the room nailed into the wall
if you go through my posts there is an updated one of my bird room that shows all the cages (as best as i could i really couldn't get a good angel to get pictures of the whole room)
I even have 2 chairs one wooden rocking chair, and one Recliner/ rocker and a end table (gotta have some place to sit my drink and camera lol) and i can sit back there for hours and just chill out and loose all track of time - So during the week i've got to go in either while my kids are in school or after i put them to bed because i've sat back there one day from 6pm to 9pm and my kids were supposed to be in bed at 7 30 lol
We left the carpet in our bird room too Now i regret it, It's marron and stained with poop that when i vaccume I have to scrape it off to get the actual poop off but the stains are there still

I think that a bird room is a marvellous use of space for that room...it's perfect. I don't have a bird room, but try this site:

Some told me it would stink and others said its not fair to do to my daughter.... This was on a different forum...
But it IMO would be a good way to get beyond her leaving and there is always the spare for if she did come home....

As long as you keep the room clean, I can't think of any reason why it would stink!
Birds really aren't smelly creatures. :)
And as you said, you do have the spare bedroom if your daughter decides to come back.

my birds room doesn't stink
I've actually been complimented several times by my boyfriends friends (who didn't know we had birds)
they all said "wow with that many I thought it would stink in here"
and of course i thought to my self " um ok its not a room full of dogs or cats why would it stink" lol

Bird poop doesn't really smell if you clean it enough, it's mostly the rotting food they fling that stinks.

You are so lucky to be able to create a bird room!!!
I would:
take everything out of the room
paint the room a bright color
put screens in front of windows
buy playgyms and hanging toys and hang them from the ceiling
make the room cozy..... maybe have a snack area for birds
place the cage in an area that is comfortable...... make a sun sitting spot for your birds to get sun
this is some ideas:p

I think it would be great to have a bird room, but I would get rid of the carpet and go with vinyl flooring!

More Pics
By the way: the plants arent real... but they make it more like home... I am going to put some real, edible plants in there once I get it painted and all... My idea is to paint it white and paint trees on the ways... Kinda a jungle/forest scene... Might be a winter project...
My birds still have the run of the house, but this way when we need to, we can keep them in one room...

I think your bird room is a great idea. Your daughter chose to leave home so the room is no longer hers and I don't think you are dishonoring her by using the room since you do have a spare for her to use, should she choose to come home.
I would remove the plant on the shelf. It's a poisonous plant that could be fatal to your birds if they nibble on it.

Your birds are very lucky, and as far as your daughter goes if she chose to move out and is settled elsewhere she can hardly complain especially if you have a spare room. When I moved out I spent ages telling my parents to do what they wanted with my room but they wanted to keep it for me just in case I came back. I actually wanted them to do something with it to kind of finalise that I'd grown up and moved out and was standing on my own two feet.
