I noticed that there have been quiet a few people asking about cages, so thought i'd put up a couple you should think about when hunting for a budgie cage.

The first thing to remeber is that the cage bar spacings must be 1cm, budgies are natural escape artists and like kids their try stick their heads through a gap not thinking about if their body can!!

Ok so heres the first, this is a chinchilla cage (i have the slightly older version of this at the moment but am looking to upgrage to this one soon).

This cage can be purchased from the main suppliers site or stockests.

As you can see a big plus is that the door is very wide (my budgies are happy to fly in and out of this cage), although i only keep 2 budgies in this, using one of the flat shelves and random branches as perches i think you caould proberly keeps up to four in here.

The next one is actuly a rat cage called 'The Jenny Rat Cage'

Again it is a very sizeable cage, and has two doors, the front is the smaller one, but is is the same size as the standard budgie cage doors, the top could prove very useful if you let your budgies out for a fly around.

This cage would be available from anywhere that supply the ferplast cages.

My advice to anyone loooking at getting a larger cage for their budgies is to look at these two before looking at the taller averies.

How would this be for a cage? With some adjustments of course.

I think as long as you can remove the wire shelves it would be fine, i'd always recoment getting the biggest cage you can find, ebay is always a good place to start :o

I had two rats before my budgies but they both died of natural cause. I cleaned it thoroughly and gave it to my god mother for her finches but she went to a smaller cage after. Just pointed out that some rat cages are wide but small in height, so check that before buying.

Your budgie was meant to fly after all and just make sure he or she have some flight space. I maybe getting a bigger cage soon but the prices are a little steep down my way. ;)

When buying for budgies, "Length is better then hight" Like Buuzbee stated. Your budgies are not helicopters or hummingbirds and dont fly strait up and down. The fly across spaces, so longer cages beat tall and skinny any day :D
