I was wondering if there was anyone on here that has ever really saved an animal and brought it into thier home? I dont necissarily mean that you got them from the shelter or anything, but that does count. I would love to hear your stories.
I got my hamster, Buzz lightyear, one day when me and my best friend were at the mall. A lady walked into the pet store while we were buying toys for my budgies and her ferret :) The lady had a small 10 gallon tank and a hamster ball. This tank was FULL of about 30 hamsters and the hamster ball had a bloody and beaten up hamster in it. The hamsters were fighting as the people at the petstore were trying to find places for them. It was chaos, and it was sad becuase the ladies obviously didnt understand how to take care of the hamsters. They were all scarred and in poor condition. I went up to the lady and asked her if I could take the one in the hamster ball, and take care of it. She said I could have it for free because they were about to feed it to the cat  because he was in such bad condtition. **they made me mad that the hamsters life ment nothing to them** It turns out that the hamster was the dad of about 10 litters and he got in a fight with about three of the other hamsters because the ladies had him in the same cage of his babies. BIG no-no.
Anyway, The hamster i got **EDITS so no fights break out ;)** was really hurt and He couldnt go potty without help but now he is perfectly healthy. I nursed him back to health and named him Buzz lightyear :D

What a adorable hamster! I got 2 of my aviary from a shetler, but once we rescued a dog (probably about 2 years ago). My and mum were walking along when we saw a loose dog so we caught it, and looked at its collar but there wasn't a number on it, so we decided to take him home and call the dog warden. The dog took the dog away and made sure it wasn't microchipped which it wasn't. The owner turned up (she asked round at the local vets and one of the nurses had seen one of the posters which we put up straight away). So she called us (apparently she was crying) and we got her in contact with the dog warden. It turned out that the dog was deaf! :p
I saved a squirrel drowning in my nieghbors pool about a mopnth ago...

omg poor thing! good job you were around!
Do fish count? If so, yes I have saved three. Sadly we lost one about 2 months ago. I got them last december I think.
Me and my dad went to Petco to pick up some dog food, bird seed, and a new leash for Sassy one night. After we picked out all the stuff we just looked around at all the animals, which we usually do. There where two bettas and a Diamond Tetra in the back away from the other fish. Their cups were filthy and they were barley living anymore. My dad asked why they were in such poor condition and the guy said "Because they are going to die." That was his excuse! So can't you at least not neglect them and make their last few days comfortable? He never even explained to us HOW they were sick and how they were going to die, even though we asked mutipule times. We got them for half price and we took them home. My mom wasn't happy, but when she heard the story she agreed to keep them. We cleaned the water and put them in clean nice tanks. I fed them and we did everything we could. Flame, a red betta, lasted three months and sadly passed away one night. But Rio(blue betta) and Diamond(Diamond Tetra) are thriving. ALL they needed was a little care, I still can't believe petco would do this.
We also rescued my first bird, Sunny, from the ASPCA. He was abused by a bird hoader and hated everyone and everything, but after a year of training and good care he came around. I seriously worry about what would have happened to him if we hadn't come into the ASPCA that day.

When I was a kid I saved a wild rabbit that my brother found. His back leg was hurt and he couldn't run at all. I took him in and fed him and took care of him for about a month while his leg healed. Every day I would take him outside to see if he could walk or run. He didn't even try. Then one day I did the same thing and he ran off like a shot! It was sad to see him go, but I was happy that I saved him. He would have never made it in the wild with the hurt leg. More recently, I saved my boxturtle, Michaelangelo, from the crappy pet shop where they didn't know how to take care of him. They didn't even know what kind of turtle he was! He was very skinny and unhappy. He lives a life of leisure now with all the salad and worms he can eat.:D

I bought a yearling in the spring of 05 who needed some TLC. I don't think he would technically be considered a 'rescue' as I actually had to pay for him and the living conditions weren't terrible, but the breeder had like 20 other horses, and she wasn't able to give them all the attention they needed.

This is him after a deworming routine, an adequate diet, an $800 vet bill, and 150 lbs or so.
It's been well worth the expense. ^^ The only probably is I think his growth may have been stunted due to the poor nutrition he received prior to my purchase. :(

I have a betta called Flame!
When I went to see my uncle once, we went to the pet shop to see all the budgies! One was being pecked hard on the head and bullied! We had to go back home though.
Next time we went down with a hamster cage, as we thought at the last minute he might still be there, we got down there to find him still there! So we asked the man for him, and he gave us no money off! Anyway, we drove back to my uncles house and popped him in the hamster cage and left him to settle down. After tea, I went to see him and began to train him to talk! I named him Bobby. After a few months he became a good talker and was tame. At that time, we also had Dusty and Misty, they all became good friends, and Bobby's feathers started to grow back!
Not soon after this, Bobby flew away, then so did Dusty and Misty. :(
I then got Billy and Lily! :D
RIP Dusty, Misty and Bobby.

All very sad stories. I tried to save these Guinee Pigs. Dad's dental surgery has a house attached to the back which we've been renting off to the same people for the last 13 years. Well one day i saw some hampsters in a hutch at the front of the rental house, I went over to have a look (curious me) and found that they had absolutely NO food and water, I told Mum and she got furious we filled there water and(this hutch had a wire bit on the bottom that the grass could poke up through butthere was NO, NONE AT ALL grass here) So we dragged it over to a grassier spot and hung some grass through the top.
I went again the next week to find THE EXACT SAME CONDITIONS, we did the same as the previous week, This time Dad left a NOTE TO TEll them to look after there pets(There was also lots of dog poo around the guinee Pig cage/hutch). The next week I came back the hutch and guinie pigs were no where to be seen I just hope nothing bad became of them.
In the holidays of 2005 my neighbors went on holiday and they asked us to look after their birdfs for them. They had 2 chicks one which was found at the bottom of the aviary dead. When they came back we asked if we could buy the chick and they agree'd for $10. About 6months later all of their 5 or 6 birds had died but one, they were mostly killed by a snake that hid in the nestbox and came out when humans weren't around. I am sure if I had left my first budgie in the aviary she would have died.
I'm not sure if these classify but oh well!

well....when i was in poland, my friend's dogs had puppies but they couldnt get them because she gave birth to them under the stairs, and i took them out one by one because they had ticks everywhere where the babies were lying but luckily they didnt get one attached!!! ohh and the mama of the babies had ticks and i got them out myself because my friends dad refused to do it !!!
Your friends' dad shouldn't have a dog if he won't take proper care of it. I'm glad you were there to help!! My son and my stepdaughter showed me a pathetic little kitten that had wandered onto our patio once. It was filthy, dehydrated, half-starved, and had worms, fleas, ear mites, and its' eyes would dilate in a really wierd way. My stepdaughter told me it was pregnant, and I didn't think so, because it was so tiny, but it turned out it was pregnant, and we took it in and fed, bathed, dewormed, defleaed, "de-ear mited", etc. the sweetheart, and all the time I told my stepdaughter and son, we'd take care of her until the kittens were born, and then we'd find homes for the kittens and off to the humane society the Mom would go! I meant it! We took to calling her Mama Cat. She had 7 babies. Four died right away, and of the three that survived, we took to calling the runt of the litter Runty. I gave the other two to a friend of mine. Due to an extremely, unbeleivably, cool, unique, daring, independant, endearing, nature, my boyfriend found he couldn't bear to give up Runty, but I was adamant about Mama Kitty. I took her to the humane society, and they told me they couldn't take her because she was lactating. I knew I could let her dry up, and then take her back, but time was my enemy and with the additional time at our house her beautiful blue eyes worked their charm and I was never able to part with her, at that time. We kept her, and she has been the most wonderful cat in the world for about six years. We recently gave her to a dear friend of ours. She had lost her precious cat a few years back, and finally felt she was ready for another cat. I used to take Mama cat to visit her, and she wanted her so badly that we decided to give her to her as an act of human kindness. It was hard, but we see her now and then and we felt wonderful about doing it. And mostly, she and Mama Cat are bonded forever and always, so it's a happy ending.
