View Full Version : General Statement

I think it would be helpful to have a "read me first" permanent topic under this section that states that any obvious health issues should be seen by a vet asap.
Unless I am mistaken non of us are qualified as avian vets and someone in dire need of a vet should look to an onlin forum last for diagnosis. It can be helpful to post about your budgies problems so we can all learn from issues we have and better learn to recognize illnesses in our birds...but I see lots of people coming here to get medical advice...no one here can properly give that kind of advice.
A read me first statement is in order don't you think!? a few of the other forums I frequent have these statements listed. Just thought it could be helpful especially for a new bird owner frantically looking for diagnosis online...a flat out statement saying to call their vet first could be helpful and timely.
we can include the links to the AAV etc...rather than them waiting on someone to post about it.
can one of the hirer ups on this site set that up!?
That sounds like a good Idea Holly! I wonder what Dave, Budgiekin and Joey will say?
I also think it is important, and we need to have that somewhere.
Well I think It should be called "Emergency" It would be great!:D But Dave and Budgiekin will have to do it :) If they agree.People on here are not qualified Avian vets some are close though. We cant diagnose whats wrong so usually if it serious Vet is the fix:D
Emergancy sounds like someones got a budgie who needs help! What about... What do do If your budgie is unwell?
Glad you agree Joey!
What about Health Statment? Incase of un unwell keet?
I think "Emergency" is better it sounds professional and medical along with being replied to fast there have been members who have had their parakeets dropping dead because they sprayed a chemical in the air and than they don't know what happened if we get to them fast enough we could save their little guys.
Yeah, I'm with Joey! RIP to all the birdys who have not been taken to a vet ect.

Or maybe you could call the topic "Shared Medical issues"
Oh, yeah- RIP little budgies.
Maybe but I would still go with "Emergency" we will see what Budgie kin and Dave say:(

Just a general statement titled something like...
"EMERGENCY?! Read me first"
Then it could state that no one here is an avian vet, and if you think your budgie is in dire need contact a vet. something like that..then we could list the links for finding a vet if they need one...We could even make a small list of "emergency" symptoms like
bleeding, sitting at the bottom of the cage, strange poop, strange behavoir.
In my case I'd rather be safe than sorry, even if a symptom could turn out to be nothing I'd rather get my bird to a vet rather than spend time chatting on a forum.
I just want to encourage more people to realize that even these little guys need a doctor every now and then, not just advice from a forum.
This way people in panic can read the statement before posting a topic like I've seen many times "HELP!!!" I hate seeing titles like those...9 times out of 10 the person should be calling a vet before posting to a forum.
Then after they've contacted the vet they can share their experiences with questions.
Yes we can give insight..but birds go down pretty fast..by the time you see symptoms they're already really sick, they hide it well...so would you if you were a tiny animal of prey.

i'd have to say most everyone that offers medical advice on these forums also advises a trip to the vet. most people that come online to get answers cant get to a vet right then, due to time of day, distance or whatever reason, and i would hope that the people giving advise would not offer information without prior knowledge of going thru the situation already
Emergency sounds like someone has got a bird in trouble, and people will ill birds aren't likely to read threads that they think are about other peoples budgies!? :duhh: You need a title explaining about what the thread is about. Incase of an Emergency would be better. :)

I think that idea for a "Sicky" thread would be excellent. It could appear as the first post in the Budgie Health forum as was suggested. Would anyone like to take the lead on this one and start a first draft of this thread? We can decide on a suitable title for the thread later and if anyone has any other ideas for titles, please feel free to suggest them....

I have some suggestions:
"Got a sick Budgie?"
"Budgie Help Here"
"Share Budgie Problems"
Find a solution
"Sick Budgie Suggestions"
"Your Budgie"
Medical Q&A
My best thought I think would be:
"Budgie Sickness Q&A"
(any subtitle will do.)
Thoughts?
I like those!Or "First Aid A-Z":S

I read on another site somewhere, maybe even somewhere on this site where soemone had listed a poison control for animals number, that could be really invaluable in case of emergency also.
I thought of a cool name that fits with the site "Budgie Clinic" I love it!:D
