One woman that I know posted a note at the local avian vet "saying she would take in unwanted birds." She also stated that they would have to be in their own cage and that they would have to give the cage with the bird. As she could not afford to buy new cages every time someone wanted to get rid of there bird. Also you would have to say what size of bird you are willing to take in. Some places just take in one or two types of birds. Being as young as you are you would need your parents permission. Best of luck!

i think to be able to officially promote yourself as a rescue, you have to get permits and permission. but im not from canada so i cant say that for sure. either way, you probably wont get too much hassle considering that you are really doing a good deed. though it could get a bit expensive without donations from people if you consider vet visits and everything for the amount of birds a rescue would get.
sounds like a great idea though. best of luck. hope it all works out.

My suggestion is to get involved with an existing rescue organization. There are lots of place around the country that need help. Get in there and see what it takes...learn to interact with other kinds of birds too..because trust me...if you start taking budgies in eventually people will bring you other types of birds. this is not a lighthanded task you talk about taking on. Every little bit helps just by donating money to a good rescue group or sending them needed supplies you can help. You don't have to try running your own rescue...we can't save them all! If there is no loval bird rescue and you're still thinking about a future in animal rescue, get involved in your local spca, or shelter, or even the zoo! Great places to learn about animal husbandry and what it takes to rescue, rehab and rehome animals.
Running a rescue is a 24 hour a day 7 day a week project. It costs lots of money, time and space. There is a local rescue in my area called Phoenix Landing. It's amazing what they're able to do but also amazing at all the work they put into it. No offense to your age but taking on such a task so young with no experience may end up overwhelming you than helping any budgies. http://www.phoenixlanding.org/ check out their website..it alone will give you an idea of what rescueing birds is about.
