Oh my God!! What a joy! I was checking up on my little budgies, and noticed that one was missing from the nest!! After the half-second panic, I spotted my little guy there, on the top perch, with my other birds!! And he's flying too!!! (Not too good, but way better than I would have expected for a first-timer!!!) Ohhh.... this is just amazing!!! :D

Here's a pic of him on top... getting ready for a well deserved nap!!!
When I asked DH to bring me the camera, his reply was that it would be alot more interesting to get MY reaction on camera!! :p

Please help! I see that my babies are in about the same stage as yours. They are about 5 weeks old, but momma bird just laid another egg. I wanted to keep the babies in with her, dad, and my other male but I am not sure if that is a good idea? I have never had baby birds before and I did not mean for them to breed. I keep researching this topic but I get conflicted answers. Any advice on what to do? Do you know of any good books? I have 3 different parakeet books and I have read them cover to cover, but they are not too helpful when it comes to breeding. By the way... Congratulations on your babies!!!!

Thank you,
Debbie :)

Hi Debbie!!

Thanks!! I'm a newbie too! This is my first time ever breeding birds. From what I've read, I'm not suprised though that she started laying again... Usually/sometimes the dad will keep feeding the chicks and mommy will start brooding her new eggs... You might need to move the older siblings out of the nest, otherwise the eggs might get crushed. Mind you, it depends if you want those eggs to hatch or not... I read that if you shake the eggs soon (a few days?) after they are laid, they won't be any good... Though I don't know if I would be able to do that!
I'm sure someone else will also be able to help you out more!!

Good luck!!

I was expecting my little one to go back into his nest for the night, but no! He stayed out all night!! This morning, I took out the "next in line" little guy, and to my suprise he started flying!!! So that makes two of four out of the nest!! Mom is still feeding them (which is good!) because I haven't seen them try to eat on their own yet.

Hi,
My budgies are breeding for the first time too. She has laid 5 eggs and the first one was suppose to hatch 2 days ago. I'm worried that they will not hatch but I'm quite confident that they are fertilized seeming as I have seen them breed and she is always sitting on the eggs. But in the last few days I havn't seen her on her eggs at all !

Thanks, :budgie:

Hi, have you tried candling the eggs to see if they are fertile or not?

Don't worry too much yet... sometimes it does take a few more days! Leave everything as is for now! Good luck!!
