just wanted to open up a discussion on what people really though were good cages and things to put in them. this thread is meant to give ideas to people about how to setup their cages best for their budgies good. thought about this as i was bringing home jay's new cage and setting it up, modding the cage frame (i do that a lot with new cages haha), and making the perches and what not.
i'll kick things off with just saying that BIGGER is always better and jay lives in a cage i would say could house 2 more budgies hahah. i would say about just about all the perches i use for jay are of the natural variety that i make myself from branches i find, clean, strip of bark, clean again, dry and then put in for him. the only dowel one i have came with the cage and i use it mainly as a stepping perch for jay. it is placed on the lowest level with homemade ladder attached to it. he is rarely ever on this perch for any extended period of time as he prefers to go onto the upper perches. i use a booda rope perch cause, well, it makes things a heck of a lot easier. i use it mainly as a perch for the food dishes in the cage.
so which is jay's favorite perch? sadly, i would have to say its not one of my homemade perches. though the ones in the cage are fairly new and he hasn't quite gotten use to them. the one he use to love before i moved him into the big cage was also a homemade one, but now he stays on the booda one a lot because its really the only one he knows from his old cage. though he does sleep on the other home made one. i definitely don't like dowel perches and will probably remove te only one that is in his cage at some point and replace it with a natural one. but for now, since he doesn't use it, im content to leave as is anyway.
well hopefully that is a good start to this thread.
