Here's a sticky with helpful tips on how to make an aviary. Hope it helps. I too am planning on building my own cage. Was at the store yesterday pricing the wood.

I would love to have an indoor aviary :)
I have always had the fascination with plexiglass cages, with wires at the sides and top (for air of course ;) )
I think that in the future, when I do have my own house and I'm settled down, I would love to have a lovebird aviary. That would really be a dream :)

Thats awesome Softie! This summer I'm building a Aviary (I guess you could call it that lol) It's going to be about 4 feet long 2 feet high and 2 feet deep. Does that sound suitable for 4 budgies? I'm planning on getting two more this summer! I absolutely love them, next time I get some I'm going to get non hand raised, I think that would be a good experience for me.

I'd depend on where you lived, what type of climate you'd be dealing with. I know down in the southern states year round outdoor aviaries are normal, but up here in ontario, I don't think it could be done with budgies...I don't know of any heat source that can be used outdoors in -40*C weather and snow :o

What kind of wire do you guys use for your aviaries? Galvanized? I want to build a large cage for my tiel, but I can only find galvanized and some people are saying don't use it some are saying just scrub it with vinegar... I'm not sure what to do!
