I am thinking of building a bird enclosure but I havnt decided what type of flooring I will use. I was thinking of not installing a floor and just having it sit on the grass/soil...Any suggestions ? ?

Unfortunately you will have to build a floor and off the ground, rodents can and will get into the aviary and could kill your birds.

Here is a link to another very helpful thread: http://talkbudgies.com/showthread.php?t=18723&highlight=aviary

a lot of people have them right on the grass. If you have big vermin (racoons etc. lol) you might want to dig first, burry chicken wire, then replant on top of the wire. put the chicken wire a good two feet extra around the base. This way they cant dig in :) This wont stop mice, but it will help stop other animals digging in and catching the birds.

How about aluminum laminate? its really hard and scratch resistant, and it is used by CagesByDesign for their outdoor aviaries. I don't know how expensive it is.
