I thought it would be neat to find out how you all came to have your first budgie. Did your friend have one so you decided to get one too? Did you rescue one that you found outside? Did you just fall in love with one at the pet store? Tell us about it!!
Without telling anybody in the family what he was up to, my brother decided to come home one day with a surprise. I remember coming home to see this white cage sitting on the hearth, so my mom and I went over to look at it. Inside was this cute little blue feathered budgie! At first we thought "Oh oh! We don't know anything about budgies!" Secondly, we though "Whatever are we going to name this little fellow?". It took while to decide on our new feathered friend's name, but we finally settled on Apollo. It was my other brother's suggestion since he really liked the greek god names. We liked it too, so that is how he came to be Apollo! What a great name for a great bird! We miss you Apollo!

My friend had a budgie called bug, and each time i went around he would sit on my sholder and sing in my ear and i just fell in love with his antics such as landing on your plate at tea time and eating your peas and being over protective of a tissue box. It set me off! For my 16th b'day i went to the pet shop and spotted my new best friend ozzy! I named him that because he was a total nutter like ozzy osbourne!! Then, i got more! Munch and mango were next. A whole avairy with just two little sweethearts in. :D
:( Sadly, Bug passed away. :budgie:
Well i got my first budgie, Tweety, for my 8th or 9th birthday i think. I DESPERATELY wanted a pet and i guess my parents decided on a budgie. She was a beautiful sky blue budgie and super tame! She passed away after only 3 years which was heart-breaking for me but i've kept budgies ever since....although Blinkie is my first tame budgie since Tweety (i'm not very patient/talented at taming budgies!).
Tweety is a good name for a budgie!
My first Budgie was Dusty a grey but he got lonely so I bought him a yellow with turquise paches wife called Misty!
Then I rescued a blue called Bobby but after around 1 month he flew away under the cage.:(
Then Dusty and Misty were sitting outside in their cage on the table and I went to the dentist.
When I came back the cage had its door open and it was on the ground...
Budgieless:( I think a cat did it.
In my neighbours garden they found Mistys body, she had had a heart attack.
We never found any of them.
Well then I got Lily and Billy as replacements!:)
They are the best budgies ever!
We got our first pair of budgies from our local bird store. We went in there just to look around and we fell in love with two of them. The one was chasing the other on a perch. We knew they were meant for each other so we bought them. They were Jiblet (in my avatar) and Budgie. They were actually my sister's bird for a while. Then one day I noticed they had no seed or water (she pretty much forgot about them), and that's when my duties started. Ever since then I've been the primary caretaker for all of our birds.
Aww thats so sweet! Your poor budgies! No food or water! Well at least you looked after them!

I got my first budgie with my birthday money.
I have always wanted a budgie ever since I was little. My love grew when I was in 5th grade and my friend got 2 budgies for Easter.
I had begged my mom the week before we got bobby to let me use my birthday money for a pet. *I knew exactly what I wanted*
When we got to the store, my mother asked me what I wanted. I told her I wanted a snake because I knew she would NEVER go for that. It was great because I pretended to get upset and I told here that I want a budgie if I couldnt have a snake. She agreed on the budgie because she didnt want a snake in her home *neither did I haha*
When we went over to look at the budgies
I FELL IN LOVE with this little green one that was preening on the top branch of a little tree thingy. I knew I HAD to get that little budgie.
I'm SO glad I got my little Bobby!
He deserves a wonderful home and I can easily provide for and spoil him! :D
Muah
Love ya

Well, Kiki is my first budgie. I had a friend who had an untame budgie named Spot and I was always trying to help him tame her, whenever he was not home I would be there holding my hand in her cage and the day that she finally stepped onto my finger I was in love. Since then I had been considering getting a budgie. I then had another friend tell me that his budgie would sit there and constantly say "Jack's a pretty bird!" and I though it was too cute. About a year after meeting Spot I decided one day "I am going to go get a budgie!" so I went to the pet store and saw the cutest little "easter egg" budgie and I had to have her so I bought a cage, food, toys, all the essentials, came home, set it all up, then went back to the store and bought Kiki. :D
Aww that's so sweet! You must be a great owner! Kiki must love you!

Kiki is a lucky budgie to have a great owner! Seems like Kiki has made friends with a dog as well!

Thanks Dave and Billy and Lily!
Kiki has made a canine friend! Her name is Asia. The other dog would love to eat Kiki though so we have her cage hanging and we put Laila away when we have Kiki out.

Aww they look like the best of friends! :)
That's a great picture! But the one in your signature looks even funnier. They seem to be having a staredown in that one. :P

Yep, the cutest thing about the two is that when one of the cats attempts to come near Kiki, Asia will be quick to chase them off and protect her. I never leave the cats out when Kiki is out but there have been a few times that they had been hiding and I did not know.

Well I was about 16 and it was during the summer when I had my first "real" job. My parents were buying some salt water fish frot heir tank and asked if I wanted a fish. Later that day I told them that I wanted a bird. I didn't know what kind or anything but my parents agreed and my mom and me were off to petsupermarket. While I was there I looked for a good hour and fell in love with a female sky blue recessive pied budgie. I took her home and she was immediately named Petrie after the little dinosoar in The Land Before Time, because she tried to fly and after she dropped to the floor she looked up at me as if to say "I flied!!:D" Soon after that she was dubbed my little umpa lumpa because when that song came on in the movie she would always dance, run in circles, and bob her head. Sadly to say she recently passed away in March of 06, and I still miss her!!! Here are a couple of pictuers of my sweet little umpa lumpa:

I am tearing up because I haven't looked at these pictures in a while and it still hurts. Wel thats the story of my first budgie and how the addiction started, hoped you enjoyed reading it!!

That's so sad. She was a beautiful bird. Anyway, I got my first budgie, Percy, almost 3 years ago now. I was looking through a book of pets to keep when I saw a section about budgies. It was then I decided I really wanted a budgie, so I looked in every paper to see for budgies advertised. Finally an advert came up advertising some baby budgies. I went to look at them and fell in love with Percy. By the way, its his birthday on Monday!

Our first budgie was Greengrass! My Mum + Dad had always owned canaries and one day decided on getting a budgie. When my Mum + Dad went to the pet shop, there was only two budgies in the cage. Right away my Mum fell in love with Greengrass. But by this point we thought she was a boy so we named her Sonny until she layed 15 eggs! She was £12.50 (I'll always remember this) and we've loved her ever since! She might be agressive but she is such a sueaky deep down.

Well I had two budgies as a teenager but I don't really remember a whole lot about them other than one was green and one was blue. They were a rehome from my grandmother. I don't remember having them for very long. Yes, I'm old!!!! I consider my first budgies Sylvester and Tweety whom I got in January this year. My mom's budgies had recently had a baby. I wanted it but she wanted to keep it so I decided to buy my own. I went to a local petstore and saw the most beautiful light coloured budgies. I didn't know what they were at the time but knew that I wanted them. I only had them a few weeks when I knew I wanted more. And now I have 11. I guess I'm a budgie-a-holic. My dream budgie would be a yellowface spangle, and if I find one my I will definately be adding to my flock.
My first budgie was Cleo I bought him from Petsmart that was about 5 years ago, then I got Sky,Skylar,Sunshine,Buddy,Blue,Alby and Crystal.I have had Blue the longest 3 years....all the others died....I used to have a huge homemade cage in my bedroom. All the budgies except Sushine,Blue,Skylar,Alby and Crystal survied I dont know what happened I cried for hours. It happened I went into my bedroom one day and half my budgies had died!   but Skylar flew away a few weeks ago and Sunshine died 2 months ago.But I still have Blue,Alby and Crystal.
My first budgie was a yellow and green male named Sunny. He was the sweetest thing. I lost him last year.:(

My first budgie was called mickey and he was blue(thats all i remember about him as i was about 8 or 9 and im 23 now) Ive always loved budgies but i always remember mickey as he was hilarious and he had an amazing personality! He was super tame, practically the minuete we brought him home from the pet store! I always remember he had a fascination with my goldfish and when he was let out his cage he would fly over to the fish tank and talk to the fish!! It was so funny as he would get really worked up and chase the fish right around the tank! one day the lid was off the cage and he jumped in the fish tank! it was so funny and my mum still tells the story to this day!

My first budgie was named Paulie. He is the same as a wild budgie. One day when I was about 8-9, I was playing in the yard, and the next thing i hear is all this flapping. It was paulie being chased by magpies!!! So I called my mum outside and we caught him, it took about a week to name him. He is still alive but my brother has him. Now of course I have my Snowy who was born by our aviary birds so I've had him since he was an egg.:party2:

My first budgie as a child was Snowy. He was white. We got him from a grown up cousin. He used to fly around and one day my little brother chased him into the kitchen. he landed on a little open window beside the door. Instead of going out front and round the back to chase him in my brother opened the door and he flew away. We saw him for a while but then he was gone.:upset: We got another called Peter. He was green. He never became tame so we gave him to a breeder who gave us Billy. We had him for a long time until he died of a bowel complaint. Didn't have budgies then until after I was married and we got one when the children were small.:budgie:
I never said how I got him. It gets me all upset when I tell it...Here goes.
We went to the ASPCA and I saw the budgies. We were really just donating stuff but I feel in love with Sunny. But he was in a cage alone. He had no manners and was a VERY MEAN BUDGIE. He bit everyone and ugh he hated people. He had been in a bird hoarders house in horrendus conditions. No water, no food, and no love. His cage was filthy. He had been picked on by other budgies for about 2 years and thats probably how he hated them. Well, it took a year and a half to tame him and we finally did! My parents threatened to send him back and put him down but it was all worth the training.

That's so sweet; it's great that you gave him a second chance like that, good for you~
I got my first budgie from a friend of mine...she had Abigail from her aunt. She was a mature budgie, feisty and a bit mean. They got a younger budgie to accompany it...but they didn't realize that Abby was fighting with him and not letting him eat! I kept telling them to separate them but...alas, I was only 10 or so and they didn't listen. So, the other budgie died, and they gave Abby to me. Well, they called her Penny, but I thought she was worth more than that ;P
I got Topaz to accompany her, and, after careful watching, they became best friends. I miss them both, that was 8 or 9 years ago. But yeah, that's how I got my first budgies!

We got our first Budgie when I was a teenager. We had recently moved to the country from the city. I had many pets, but that was nothing new. We had more space for more & bigger.:) Part of moving to the country was expanding the family farm, that my grandfather had started.
One spring morning Dad came back to the house early, after feeding the cattle. In the feed lot was a yellow budgie, eating with the cows & using their heated water trough. It was still pretty cold out & Dad thought the little felllow wouldn't last so he walked up behind him and caught him, put him in his pocket & came home. Mom had an old cage from when she was into Finches so we set him up in the farm kitchen, which was huge. He used to go crazy for Rock 'n Roll. Sadly he was always caged - although Mom did get him a better quality cage. We had him about 6 years - but we didn't know his age. Back then I didn't even know you could make them tame. Thankfully I know better now about nutrition and care.
Your childhood sounds wonderful. I grew up on a junkyard with a Dad who didn't allow pets, and who would kill stray dogs and cats that came onto the yard from (I'm not positive, but I think they came from) the dogpound, which was across the tracks, at the bottom of our lot. So, naturally, when I grew up, I had pets all the time. One pet I never had any interest in, was a bird. I didn't see them as affectionate. I didn't see them at all, until my friend showed me her newly purchased, untamed, Mexican Redhead Parrot. It had it's body flattened down against the bottom of the box she had carried it in, in fear, and when she showed it to us, it was so frightened, that it made a cry, and that cry was the most beautiful, melodic, sound I had ever heard in my life... I'll never forget... Well, I landed up buying a severely malnourished, one-eyed, Orangewing Parrot, from an add in the paper. Vet bills were expensive, but I learned a lot from that. Jack (my one-eyed angel), opened up a whole new world for me. I've had birds ever since. My first budgie, was Kiwi. I just wanted a budgie because I'd never had one. I made a mistake, when I tamed him, of always wearing a barrette in my hair, with a spray of millet attached-- and I let him be on top of my head all the time munching the millet. After that he was a very, constantly, in my face, kind of a baby. (Kinda hard to watch TV with the budgie climbing all over your glasses:p !) I will say Kiwi was very smart. He was jealous of my Quaker, and would charge him, when my quaker was on my shoulder, but he never got close enough to get hurt. He'deven bathe with Stormy, the Quaker, ducking in and out quickly, staying just out of Stormys' reach. Sadly, one Halloween, we had Kiwi out in the living room when my son opened the door for trick-or-treaters', and Kiwi flew out the door. We were so used to letting Kiwi free-fly every evening, that we just forgot for a minute, and that's all it took. We never saw him again. My hope is that, since he was so tame, and since he'd land on most anyones' head (at least in my home), that somehow, somewhere, somebody found him and rescued him...

Tat's kool. Well i got my budgie this year for my 12th bday. My two best friend got it for me. They took me there so i could choose the colours. But b4 all of those i had to do a lot of naggin, beggin and asking until my mum said i could get one under conditions which are very annoying one but i havent followed them yet...Well i named mine Spunky bcoz he is black white and grey. What i didnt know about was that she has been texting my dad who lives oversea about the budgie.I was never allowed pets bcoz we go overseas at the end of the year every yr, so there's no one to look after it.I found out about her discussing with my dad about the budgie was when i was reading the bday text that my dad sent me and quickly read through the other ones that he sent and in one of them it said that she can have one coz she wanted a pet since forever...Well that my story ^.^

Well, I went to the mall one day, when I was 12 I think, he had a friend and her daughter come with us. We went into the pet shop, and were looking at the budgies. I thought they were so cute, and asked as nicely as I could if I could have one. HE said YES. I didn't realize that he loves them also, and the budgie my grandmother used to have, was given to her by my dad. lol. Well, the other girl had to have one also. My budgie, whome I named Tweety, lived for four years, until he flew out the door, thanks to one of my little brothers. The other girls budgie died the next day.... I think it was her little brother as well. Now almost 10 years later, I finally have a budgie again.. this time I have the small children, and have to watch my son VERY VERY CLOSELY!!!! That's my story!

I got a budgie when I was 8-9 for Christmas. I wanted one because I was allergic to cats and dogs and my mom doesn't like rodents:P I got Candy, who was a blue and white female. I never knew I was supposed to tame her and don't really remember much about her first years so she was never tame. I think she eventually accepted me though...in a weird way. Whenever I had to clean her treat dish I had to wear two gloves because she bit so hard:) She was a loud budgie, and she will be missed. She died trying to lay an egg in October. I now have Miko, a green and yellow male, who will stand on my finger and eat millet (in his cage) I've had him for 4 days now and he's the cutest! No biting yet!:O

Well I was in town and popped into the petshop, there I saw this lovely white budgie, I was really tempted to buy him but I put it off until the weekend when I could show him my husband. We went to the pet shop to find that the budgie had been sold, I was very disappionted. The staff told us that they had another white one at another branch which was about half an hours drive away. I put on my sad eyes and my husband said we could go and LOOK......ha ha. In the shop we could see no budgies but the owner said he had them in the back because they had just arrived. Out he came with the birds and I fell for the white one which seemed very tame. He caught it in about 3 seconds. We took him home and have had him for 7 weeks now and he is coming along great. He is my first budgie and he fascinates me all the time. :budgie:

I was in 2nd grade and out playing/walking around the house with my little sister when a budgie flew right above us and smacked into a wall... it scared us. So i quickly took off my jacket and threw it over the frightened bird. I had rescued a couple baby sparrows that had been abondoned, so i knew sorta what to do. We took it inside and put it in our old canary cage and named him Jeepers. from that one song "Jeepers, Creepers, Where'd you get those funny Peepers" idk... we were young lol. My parents ofcourse said we could keep him, we didnt even question that because they've always loved animals and that was the start of owning a lot of birds and building a bird aviary in our backyard. He started my love for birds and was a gorgeous, young, cobalt blue male. We soon got him a friend (also male) named Creepers. lol

My first budgies were Merry & Pippin. The reason I got them is kind of a long story. My little friend's teacher always kept finches in her classroom, and she gave 3 of them to my friend because she had too many. Then my friend said that they were going to breed their finches & would I want a baby? YES! So I bought a cage, toys & food, but all 3 finches turned out to be boys.
So my mom told me I could buy finches, anyway, or I could get a budgie. What is a budgie? I asked. My mom showed me this book we had on how to take care of a budgie.
So I read, read, read, read, & read. Then I got Merry & Pippin! This Jan (2006) I have always wanted a pet all my own, and I got one!!!!!!!!!! (Pippin was my sister's)
But they escaped the house just as I was getting them tame...
Now I have Misty & I love her VERY much!

The first budgie in my family's house was my sister's named, appropiately, Budgie. His favourite thing was pooing on my sister's head. Our second budgie came from a friend who was moving to another country and couldn't take him with her. His name was Bluey (and yes, he was blue! I know a lot of original people! :p ).
And currently, my sister and I have Max, who's cute as a button!

aww thats really sad.
Doodles- I was out shopping with my dad (dad/daughter day...) he wanted to spoil me as he had fallen out with his parents. We went into a tiny petshop and it had two little budgies, they looked really ill =[... My dad wanted to look at the antiques downstairs so I went with him. There was a little book about canaries. So I said to my dad jokingly "dad can I have a canary?" And he replied "yes I don't see why not." I was in shock and I nearly had a heart attack. I took advantage of my daddys weakness xD and I asked for a budgie instead.. and he still agreed! I had wanted a budgie for over 3 years =O. This was my chance so I wasn't going to let it go :P.
We decided to get one from the petshop nearer my home, so the poor thing didn't have to travel far. I had my eye on a little white budgie.. But he seemed very content and happy, he kept following and feeding this other budgie. I didn't want to take him from his friend. I looked about and a shiney little blue bird caught my eye =] and he was the one I took home with me =].
Sunny- I told a friend at the stables that I keep my horse at, that I had a bird. And she said to me "If you wanted a budgie you should have come to me!". I asked my mum about it and she agreed. After cursing LOUDLY about Doodles, she let me get him a friend :) Sunny came with a sweet 2 bird cage. I hadn't seen her until she arrived. But when I saw her I fell in love =].

The first budgie I had was a cobalt blue budgie named Tweety, I had gotten him around when I was 6 years old. Always wanted a bird, so one day we went to the petstore with my sister and my mother and we came home with a budgie. We got him this beautiful brass birdcage. When we got home my sister went to go get him out of his box to place him in the cage and he bit her. I don't remember how long we had him, I believe we only had for around a month or so before he. My brother and I were devistated. We got our next birds in 2004 and their names were Sonny and Chloe, they were so beautiful. Chloe was a Cobalt pied and Sonny was a cream yellow.

Aw, a lot of your stories are so sad. It would hurt so bad if my babies flew away. Lucky for me they don't think that the house has any other rooms besides the living room and the dining room.
My family rescues birds. It devastates my mom to see the birds like this and a lot of them don't live, but someone needs to help them. We took care of a chickadee once that we named Tweeter. She had an injured wing and we nursed her back to health. My mom gave her to the SPCA in the end to make sure that everything was okay and they ignored Tweeter. She injured herself there and died.
We caught Keet on our neighbor's driveway with a butterfly net. She was yellow with brown flecks on her wings and a big belly. I saw her for the first time as a yellow blob in the middle of the dining room (I needed glasses). We were never ever allowed to have pets but my mom remembered what happened to Tweeter and so we kept Keet. At first she lived in an upside down laundry basket with a yellow blankie. Then we got all her supplies. She was the only budgie we ever hand tamed. she would come onto our fingers and give kisses and we kissed her belly. She loved being hand fed oats and was afraid of the bottom of her cage. She had the biggest poops ever and loved to fly around and let them loose. Keet was a better listener than anyone and she would dance by ducking her head and lifting one foot and then the other back and forth really quickly. We called it the chicken dance and it made her whole cage shake. She had a huge personality and was with the family for a decade. It's been six years since her death but it took me almost a year to stop grieving. I hate death. I wish I had more pictures of her sweet little face. I don't know how old she was when she came to us, but we are pretty sure she died of old age. Her foot cramped up and she couldn't walk on it properly. My mom took her out of her cage and wrapped her in a blanket when she couldn't stand by herself. Keet was scared and we didn't know what was happening to her. It was very hard on all of us.

I got my first birds in Dec 13th-ish of last year .They were the first things that i bought with the money from my first job. I went to the local pet store to get one but i fell in love with them because they were in a corner by themselves while the other budgies were playing together.Sadly one of them died the 20th-ish of Dec only one week after i had bought them .We still don't know why it died. I got 2nd ,3rd and 4th bird Dec 23rd-ish . They were gifts from my sisters and from my mom. They bought them because they felt bad that my bird had died and because my dog had died the day after my bird died( it was not a good week for me). They were the only ones i had planned on getting but on Feb of this year i went to buy some bird food and there was a single budgie in the cage it looked so lonely that i just had to buy it .My next addition was Nov. 20th-ish ,There's something about upcoming holiday's that make me want to buy birds .

I'm like that to. I can't into a petstore and not stop by the bird room. I think Budgies are very addictive, they come in so many colors, personalities and they are so adorable. How can't you not want another one.

You will have to go to a pet supply store the ones where they don't sell pets. :p
Or buy online. I always go to look at the bird everytime I see a pet shop and then I start to twitch and say in my mind no and walk out. The pet shop owner thinks I'm crazy.

For some reaosn i was just thinking about my first budgie, I got him for my fourth birthday. He was a normal green and his name was Stephen. When i was 5 or 6 I got a normal cobalt budgie and named him Petrie (his wings were clipped and he never flied, he just falled) Stephen when I was about 13, My family didnt know much about budgies at the time but my dad astarted noticing a bump on my chest so now that we know more about keets we're thinking maybe Stephen (who btw turned out to be girl) had a tumor. Petrie died about 2 months later and we think it was from lonliness or a broken heart... they weren't tame at all and they lived in a fairly decently sized cage in the office where my father pretty consitantly talked to them lol.
ANYway I took an 8 year break from birds before I got Nouba
I was just wondering about everyone else's first budgies :)

Oh my first budgie was Chip!he was a normal green budgie. I had him for about 10 years.Yes,it's true.He was on an all seed diet with an occasionla nibble of human food when he flew onto the kitchen table.
He got sick once had an eye problem, went to the pet store got some meds and he got better.
The day he died I said goodbye and went to work and left a shoebox for my dad to bury him. When I came home he was gone. I cried for weeks and swore off pets forever.
Now,married with 2 kids,my girls wanted a pet a we decided on a budgie since I was a little familiar with their care,so we got Birdie.
Oh how I miss Chip.He was such a cutie..:budgie:

I got my first budgie for Christmas when I was seven years old. Reepicheep was a cobalt blue budgie who learned to come when I called. My family's cat Snowball later killed him, but I have always had a budgie ever since.

I had my first budgie 3-4 years ago and it lived for only 7 months because of malnutrition (most likely). I was not experienced with animals. Now I have my 3rd budgie, who is now 11 months old.

I didn't have 1 first Budgie, I had 2. Jack & Zach. They were 2 Budgies, never handled in a home where they were covered all the time. I was searching Craigslist and they were listed in my area in the wrong section. So we went over to the lady's house, paid for them and took them home.

Hi
My best friend has budgies, and one day, while i was over there, i asked, what are those birds? and she said they were budgies. so i read alot about them, and of course, loved them. i asked my mom if i could have one, and after awhile, she said yes! so we bought a beautiful cage, and lots of stuff for it. I looked around and i found a good breeder with a female blue budgie, just what i wanted! so we arranged to come pick her up. but, just before we were about to leave, the phone rang, and the breeder said: sorry! i just gave away your bird free to a family!" i was so mad!!! So, a little later we went out to find a good budgie to bring home, from a pet store. we went to 3 different stores, before i found a healthy, pretty one, that wasn't too skittish. so, i brought her home, and now, she's my best friend!!! Yay Tessa!!!! ;)

Thats a sweet story hunni, well in the end it is. My first budgie that I got was Edie and that was June 2006. My nephew had her and I was worried because she was left a lot and the dog was always trying to get at the cage and they let me have her. After that I chose 4 more budgies.
My first budgie was L'uccello. I was sick in the hospital and my older sister watched over my siblings while me and my parents weren't home. When at the pet shop, she spotted Luchy and called up my mom asking if she could get him since she had helped so much while I was sick. She said yes and we brought him home.

First budgie was and still is I guess Rutabaga. I was on the search for the perfect pet I could take care of myself. It dawned upon me those cute little budgies that I see when I get new toys for my dogs. I did a shillaly load of research, 7+ sites online 1 book named "Parakeets for Dummys" and a magazine on how to train birds and about each type. I fell inlove with just the research so I asked my mom and we began to find the best petstore for one... During one of the searches in which my dad came with we found the cage we have now for only $25. At this point my parents didnt even know if they actually were going to let me get one but after we bought the cage I guess it was happening! I didnt fall inlove with any of the budgies there so I went to petco a few blocks away and stared at the budgies till I fell inlove with one, a lovely blue one to be exact. He was preening another on the top of a cage and then played with a little bell. The woman got out her net and put the budgie I chose in the small box. My mom picked out some perches I chose toys the whole time my dad was at the fish. I read the back of atleast 3 food types till I chose one that seem healthiest and TaDa..
Thats my lame story of how I got MY FIRST BUDGIE! Fweee.

My first budgie was Darling. I had been reading up a lot about birds, budgies in particular. That is what I would do a lot when I was little, still do. Well my grandma took me to the pet store, that is something I like to do in my spare time. We were just looking, and I did have some money on hand. I saw this gorgeous little grey winged girl and had to have her.
So called my mom, got Darling. She was such a stubborn bird, bit really hard. She ended up getting a friend, Jim Dear. But one day they both got sick or something and Jim Dear had alread passed away when my mom went to look Jim had already passed and Darling wasn't looking to good. I was at a friends house. :( Darling ended up having a seizure and passing away in my moms hands.

My first budgies were Bubble and Cook. But I got them pretty recently :)
I guess Bubble kind of came first though. We went to the petstore in multiple trips, and she caught my eye. She was playful, she would go through the ring toy in the cage, and try to take the bell toy of the top of the cage. Later I decided on Cook(Cookie at the time), because he (although I thought he as a she at the time) seemed to like Bubble, always trying to feed her (although Bubble never accepted, she still doesn't lol! lets him preen her head though) so I chose him too.

I’ve only just brought my “first” budgie home (meaning the first one I’ve owned all by myself), but my first was when I was about 14/15. My mum bred budgies, and one had been kicked out of the nest and pecked on the head by an especially temperamental hen. I was in my bedroom listening to music and writing when my mum came in with an open shoebox and asked if I could look after the little thing while she went out. At first I was reluctant, but as soon as I looked in the box I fell in love. She was tiny – with a great big scar on her head, almost featherless, nestled in amongst some soft paper my mum had shredded. She was weakly eating mushy stuff off a paddlepop stick. She couldn’t move and could only make these tiny, anguished little cries. We didn’t know if she would make it, but she did, and soon became the most mischievious little budgie I’d ever know. We named her Birdie, because she started out as “the poor little birdy that got kicked out of the nest”, and it stuck!

I came upon my first budgie when I was 7 or 8 -- and now that I think back, it may have been purchased in haste.
My brother bought a rat one night, and brought it home, along with a budgie for me! Because of his vibrant Lutino yellow, I instantly named him Zuco (means yellow in Serbo-Croatian).
That first night I did not have a cage for him so I spent time with him on the floor in the dining room. I don't know how, but we managed to keep him on top of the fridge until I was able to obtain a cage from a friend, and there he lived quite happily. My brother managed to tame him, and was able to hold him in his palm, on his back and scratch his head, causing him to poof up.
Zuco liked to fly around the house and hang on doorframes, until one day he managed to fly down the stairs, jump on my mom's head and escape out the window. I was very upset -- I had only had him for about four months.

Hey,
i was around 11 when i got my first one. It was summer and i was sitting in the garden when i recognized a small blue bird in the tree. At first i thought, what's that but then my mother came and told me it was a Budgie. Somehow we've worked it and caught the little blue Budgie. I gave her the name Lizzy. After some days, meanwhile we went to a vet with her, my mom told me that Lizzy needs some company.
The next day we went to a petstore and bought Timmy, a male Budgie also in blue. He was a pretty nice and tame Budgie and teached Lizzy some things.
Among other things, that she hasn't to be afraid of me^^ I think after 3 weeks she was as tame as Timmy was. Yeah, they were my 2 first Budgies.
After their death i didn't want other Budgies because i was so sad.....
Providentially i got my sweet Woelkchen last summer and since then i bought more and more Budgies. Now i have 4 and this is enough:D

My friend had gotten a budgie that was really sweet so I wanted to get one. At the time she had got hers, that was a few months after I had decided that I wanted to become an avian vet (I wanted to be an ornithologist and a vet so I mish-mashed 'em). So I researched them a bit before buying one. Actually, my parents didn't want me to get one at first but I went ahead and bought a cage anyways. Hehe. And then my Dad took me to Altoona to get one..and I did! Abyss was my first budgie. I originally was going to get a green one, but I couldn't take my eyes off of Abyss. =]

I got my first budgie when I was about ten, and my dad encouraged me to get one. So, we got a handfed male, and a normal female, and my dad challenged me to see who could get their budgie the most tame.
I fell RIGHT in love with Cheech, my budgie. He was already tame, and he would come to me when I called. My dad's wasn't doing to well.
One day, me nd a friend were playing with the budgies, under the ladder of my bunkbed, and he climbed up to get something, and totally forgot about the budgies, my friend stepped on them both. I can still picture them dying today. D:

My cousins bought my great grandma a budgie for her birthday, they thought it was a boy but she named it Polly anyway. She lived with her for maybe 7 years until my grandma died. Then my brother took Polly on until he split up with his girlfriend and I was left incharge of her! She was a cute little thing, she couldn't fly and was always grumpy but she had real character. She died last week which was a shame, but she lived for about 10 years!
We got her a compainion called Cracker who we've still got and yesterday we bought two baby budgies called Pippin and Merry to keep him company! We were only supposed to get one but me and the boyfriend couldn't decide which we wanted more, so we ended up with both little fluffballs!

I actually just got my first budgie about a month ago, and I'm 40
I seem to have inherited my pet-keeping interests from my father. He had a 55g tank built into a basement wall in the house I grew up in. I don't remember much about it but I now have 8 tanks of my own lol
For years before I was born he used what was to eventually become my bedroom as a breeding room for budgies :budgie:

My mum and grandparents used to breed budgies, but we never had them when I was young. When I was in my late teens we got one for my nan for her birthday. My mum fell in love with him and decided to keep him and had to get my nan another one. Buster died and my nan went into a home so my parents took her budgie Bob on.
Last year my parents moved in with me for a couple of months, along with Bob. When they moved out I really missed him and persuaded my husband to get one. Bert was our first budgie and he was amazing, really playful and cute. We had him put down recently but wouldn't be without one now, they're such great company.

The first parakeet/budgie my family had was when I was a child. I don't remember why we got him, maybe so that my siblings and I could have a pet around that would be fairly easy to take care of.
I'm getting my own parakeet very soon, from my brother. His two birds had four babies, and he asked me if I wanted to have one of them. I talked to the owner of the house I live in (I'm renting), and she said it would be OK, so I told my brother I'd take one. I kind of missed having a pet around and remembering that our old parakeet was fairly easy to care for, I thought this would be a good choice.
