At the momment i am very intrested in colour mutations in budgies and am always on the look out for 'different' looking budgies to introduce to my flock.
i have had a long think about this and dont recall ever seeing a green and white pied or a yellow and white pied and would be intrested to know if this is possible and if so does any boday own one and do you have pictures.
thanks for your time :budgie:

I think that green and white would be very unlikely but if you added the yellow face gene to a blue pied you would get a pied with both yellow and white on the same bird.

Bob1,

Budgie genetics 101, there are 2 colors series of budgies, blue and green.

Blue line of birds: birds will be blue with white markings
Albino
Lace-wing
Fallow: sky, cobalt, violet, grey, mauve
White/dilute: sky, cobalt, violet, grey, mauve
Sky
Cobalt
Violet
Grey
Mauve

Green line of birds: birds will be green with yellow markings
Lutino
Lace-wing
Fallow: light green, grey green
Yellow/dilute: light green, grey green
Light Green
Grey Green
Olive

Green birds can NEVER had white faces...unless they are half siders and that is not a mutation, but a freak of nature fusing 2 embryos fertilized by 2 sperm togther.

Blue birds CAN have yellow faces. There are 2 different types of yellow face
Cream face- also known as Type I yellow face -a very pale yellow
Yellow face - also known as Type II yellow face - darker yellow
Golden face - also known as Type III yellow face - this is where the yellow will “bleed” into the body color of the bird. If the bird is a sky by adding golden face they yellow turns the blue a turquoise color. This yellow can be splotchy on the body and can also continue to “bleed” into the body coloring with each molt. I have had a cobalt turn green over time. The bird is genetically blue, but visually is green.

o that is a shame about the green and whites but very excting news that you can get yellow and white pieds. actually nev90 i have a blue and white pied paired with a yellow face blue and they have 6 eggs, with the first one hatching as we speak :p so if it is true what u say and i am lucky i may have yellow and whites fingers crossed.
and thank you Kerry C for that information it was very intresting to read :)

many thanks to you both:budgie:

Will look forward to hearing what you do get.

Kerry, by your description would the birds most of us refer to as type II yellow face actually be type III or is their a difference in how the colour bleeds?

I think the differnce is just the color, on the golden (type 3) it to me is more golden, looks like a dandelion in sorts, where a Type 2 is more dull and actually looks like some one colored the bird with a yellow crayola crayon

I was told that my Jasmine and Belle are both golden faces
Here is Belle The yellow/greenish one

and here's jasmine(her body is actually blue and purple but the purple never shows)

If the pied is a recessive pied the yellow faced pied won't happen this generation unless your yellow faced blue is split for pied. But here's hoping that it is split or that your pied is a dominant pied. Good luck

Yes this is true. The yellowface type II is on the face only. It is the type III that bleeds into the body color. I will find the post for you where Kerry explains this.

my pied female has a white spot at the back of her head as do some of my other budgies , is this a sign that they are ressesive pieds?

if you mean a white spot like this
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/RednecksDoItBest/My%20Birds/Differnt%20Views%20of%20Tweety%20my%20Budgie/TopofTweety.jpg

it just means pied

A recessive pied normally only has color at the bottom part of them

like this http://www.budgieplace.com/c_recpied.html
if you scroll down on that page under the 2 on the ground it'll show belly pics
