If you've seen the special announcement at the top of the forum home, I'm sure you're aware that there might be some downtime in the coming days. This is because I'm switching web hosts.
Right now I'm trying to switch over some of my smaller sites, which can have a lot of downtime. Obviously, this site cannot have a lot of downtime as it's an active community. Because of this, I intend to transfer this site last so I know exactly what I'm doing by the time it's our turn to transfer. I plan to do this on a weekend while I'll be home all day (I'm not home during the day during the week) because, well, for technical reasons most probably won't understand. So I won't get into that. But just expect the transfer to happen either this weekend or next weekend. It will most likely happen one of these days.
When the transfer occurs, you can expect about a full day of downtime. First, I have to switch the domain's settings so they point to my new host. This takes several hours. I can't do anything until this is complete. When this is complete, I then have to set up the domain on my new host. This will take several hours, depending on how fast the host moves (I think). Once this is done, if everything goes as planned, I'll simply upload all the files and the database to the new host and the transfer will be complete. All in all, I expect this to take a full day, which is why I want to do this on a weekend (as I want to move to the next step in the process as soon as the previous one is complete to minimize downtime).
Once I transfer my next-biggest site, Talk Camp, to the new host, I'll have a much better idea of how long this transfer should take, and I'll update again then.
Until then, if you have any questions, you may post them in this thread and I'll do my best to answer them.
(And just so this question isn't asked a thousand times, no information or data will be lost in the transfer. I will shut down the forums prior to the transfer so no new posts will be made while the transfer is occuring.)
