I thought I would share some recent pictures of my little sweety Skyla.

Skyla doing some beak-ups. Great exercise for her since she is unable to fly with only one wing...

Great pictures! I really love that first one. :D Skyla's still a beautiful bird, even with just one wing. :)

Your Skyla is a beautiful budgie and such a gorgeous color. She just looks like a girl budgie, she just seems so feminine. She maybe missing a wing but is isn't missing a character.

Dotty :)

Skyla sure is a very pretty girl, regardless of her handicap!:D She seems very active. Why does she only have one wing, if you don't mind me asking?

Everytime I see her I feel like crying! She is just so special and brave.

P.S She had her wing amputated because of a tumor.

Yes you are right Amy, she had her wing amputated because of a rather fast growing tumour on the underside of that one wing. The vet recommended either just keeping an eye on the tumour and when it got too large, euthanize her, OR amputate the entire wing. Obviously I chose wing amputation since she is still with us. The surgery was done in February of this year. She has adapted really well although sometimes she does belly flops onto the carpet and squawks like mad because she ends up rolling on the floor. But she is very active and agile..loves to climb and chase the boys during out-of-cage time.;)

Wow, another question lol, whats a tumor?

Budgiekin

A tumour is essentially a growth that isn't normal. What happens is skin cells on a particular area just grow uncontrollably which causes a bump to form. Some growths are malignant (cancerous), whereas other growths are benign (meaning they do not spread...the growth forms locally, which was the case with Skyla).

Thanks for your comment budgielove. Everyday I wake up and say wow to myself. She is coping so well. Now she just has to get over this preening gland problem she is having. ;)
