Hi Carly. Welcome to the site. I'd start by reading everything under the sun about breeding budgies. People are so lucky these days, with computers we have a wealth of info at our fingertips! :)

Hello fellow Canadian! LOL (Sorry, I had to make a comment about that!) Welcome to the forum! It's a great place to be to share your love for budgies! I too have a budgie named Kiwi..what a great name!!! :p

As far as breeding, you should definitely talk to your friend's mom about breeding to see if she can offer you some advice. There's also tons of info on the internet. Here's an article that one of our members wrote that may be a good starting place for you.....just remember, you can never know too much about anything, so read read read!! ;)

It can be quite devastating when something goes wrong. When we bred our budgies the female killed all the babies except one. I love budgies too, and that was horrible for me-- I felt so guilty, and so bad for those darling little babies. It was very hard to take them out and bury them. RIP my unnamed, little angels.:(

It's okay to decide to breed your budgies. What I did wrong was to breed them without fully, completely, and totally educating myself to make sure I was ready, and prepared to handle anything that might come up. For example, I should have known who to go to in an emergency that has the knowlege. I have an excellent avian vet, but he doesn't do 24 hr. service, or holidays, and good avian care can be hard to find-- especially in a pinch! Anyway, good luck, & happy reading!:)
