View Full Version : big enough cage?

I'm looking at a cage that is 24 x 18 x 24. I like it because it doesn't have the sliding up and down doors, and it DOES have a big door that swings open to the side. I realize that until my bird is tame, the door might be an issue, but I know that I'll be annoyed with a little door that makes it difficult to access the inside of the cage.
I am just starting with one budgie. I worry that I should have a bigger cage, though. If I could find one that was bigger AND had a big door, I'd reconsider, but I haven't found one yet (and they all seem to have those stinkin' sliding up and down doors.)
I suppose I could get a bigger one later if I find one I like. I dunno. What do you think?
Thanks.

Those dimensions would work for one bird very well. If you wanted to get more birds to add to the flock you might find yourself purchasing another cage though. :)

I assume you are talking in inches? ;) If that is the case, then that would be quite adequate housing for your budgie. You'll still want to provide some out-of-cage time. Obviously, the bigger the cage the better.
I too don't like those sliding doors (aka guillotine doors...).

Thanks for all of your help, Budgiekin. You have given me great advice (I think) on various topics!
Someone else on the boards gave me some GREAT information about a very large cage. I've saved the info, because I really want that cage eventually, but I decided not to get the big cage first; my concern is that I want to have a cage I could move to another part of the house (if the heat goes out) or to another location in case of an emergency. But down the road, I'm definitely getting the other cage that was recommended. The board member showed me where to get the best price, and when I was looking at a different cage (that she also had) she steered me toward the other (which was less expensive, but better constructed.) Dear forum member, if you read this, I'm sure you'll know I am talking about you, but I didn't want to
This really is a nice group.

Maybe this information about this great cage could be published here for all to see? It is important because it is very difficult to find a large cage that can be used for budgies. Usually the bars are too far apart, so the birds can get stuck.
So, please if anybody knows where to get great cages at a good price, please share:)

Hi,
This is the cage that this other person has, and she really likes it. I thought the price was reasonable too (realize you can find it other places for up to 300 dollars!)

Thanks for that info.:) Looks like a good cage and the bar spacing is perfect. I hate the guillotine doors too and that's what I have at the moment.

Where did you find it cheaper? I looked, but I couldn't find it cheaper (if you add in shipping.)

Yes it is the same cage! I hear that these cages are all manufactured at the same place then it is branded. My cage is an HQ13221 whereas on the feather farm site it is GA13221. Yes it is cheaper on the Feather farm site. Windy City Parrot had them for $99 plus free shipping over the holidays. Many sites sell them so wherever it is cheaper I guess is best.
You will be really happy with that cage! :)

You've got a really good price there where you're at. She was just saying that at the link you provided it was $20 cheaper than the link I provided in another thread.
