Hello all:
Sorry, no picture. Just discovered my dig. camera's dead. I will post one as soon as I get another battery.
I have 2 budgies Anna and Bobby. Anna is mommy's little prince charming. Yes, he's a boy, but I didn't discover that until after I named him. Bobby is really just company for Anna. Bobby flips out if I put my hand in the cage, but that's okay he and Anna get along great.
Anna is 4 years old. Maybe a little older. I used to work at a pet supplies store that carried small animals like budgies, hamsters, rabbits etc. I had decided that I wanted a budgie. Origanally, I picked out a very unique colored budgie almost aqua marine colored, but when I put my hand in the cage to catch it, Anna jumped on my finger, like "no, you want to take me." And that was it. He's not very colorful - mostly grey with a little yellow and blue, but the friendliest budgie I've ever met.
After I brought home Anna, I feel in love with budgies. I became the budgie nurse at the store I worked at. I brought home every sick budgie and never had a patient die on me. I kind-of have a nack for sick birds, I guess.
Anna has had 2 companions. During Anna's first 2 years, I had a really doscile cat. The cat would let Anna climb all over her. She even purred while Anna picked at her whiskers and fur. When that cat died of kidney failure, my mother gave me her dog, who sadly will eat Anna any chance he can get. As I wasn't able to let Anna fly free all the time anymore, I decided to keep one of my budgie patients as a companion for Anna. Emma was friendly and was handle-able. But a few weeks later she really beat up poor Anna. No serious injuries, but Anna would hide in the corners of the cage and sometimes forced to the bottom of the cage. She also wouldn't let him eat. I'd take him out and he wouldn't leave me alone. He kept trying to pull food out of my mouth even though I had no food in my mouth to give him. I bought another cage and separated them, but then Emma would scream for him. I called her the "abusive girlfriend." I ran into a lady at the pet store I used to work at who had an aviary. She took in my "abusive" budgie.
Anna was alone for a while. I kept reading everywhere that they really should have a companion if you are not able to give them alot of attention. This time I decided to get him a young male companion. It worked. Bobby and Anna get along great.
As far as food goes, I feed them L'Avian seed diet with thawed frozen assortment of veggies and whatever fruits are in season. Right now strawberries, peaches, and cherries. For a treat I give them Nutri-Berries and sometimes Millet.
Thanks for listening.
