I have two budgie and i know one female but don't know about the other. The female just laid eggs at the the bottom of the cage. She isn't sitting on them but i dont want to take them out just in case they are fertile. how do i know if they are fertile and why isn't she sitting on the eggs?

You can do a candle test to see if the eggs are fertile. Take the eggs into a dark room and flash a flashlight through them. If you see blood vessels, the egg is fertile. If the egg is completely clear, the egg is infertile.
It is not uncommon for budgie girls to NOT sit on their eggs. Not all budgies make good parents. I'm not sure what you can do to encourage her to sit on them...do you have a nest box?
hnm...maybe if they are fertile put them inside a nestbox and she might sit on them...if not dont worry!Throw them out and you will get more. How many eggs did she lay?If she hasnt been sitting on them...even if they are fertile they would have died from being cold also a tip..dont touch your eggs to often try to touch them in one spot because there are pores on the shell wich alllow the embryo to breathe...goodluck

aside from the before mentioned pores, eggs are often laid with a slime coat that protects the egg from infection in the early stages. so touching it too much would result in a loss of the natural protection. if she refuses to sit and they turn out to be fertile, you can always try the nestbox idea or look up more manual means such as with a human controlled incubator. google it to see how it is setup, though if the eggs are laid, it is probably to late to get everything setup in time. however, it may be a plus to know for future events. if you are worried that breeding in the future will result in teh same problem again, take heart in knowing that animals become better at parenting each attempt and budgies are no exception. good luck
Thats alot of time spent incubating eggs ypourself you must be desperate to have chicks if you want to incubate eggs from day 1 to raising the babies!I would just throw them out they are dead by now...
Sometimes female just lay eggs. You have to keep a eye on this because sometimes when they start they just don't stop and she can get egg bound. To tell if an egg is fertile get a flash light and hold it to the egg. UNfertile eggs will be almost transparent and you can see the light threw the egg. Fertile eggs will be darker and you will not be able to see hardle any light is none at all threw the eggs.
