Having read up lots of information on here .... i have quickly come to the conclusion that Oscar's cage is too small being only 44cm wide by 24cms deep...so I am looking at getting another....any thoughts on this one...http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/birds/bird_cages_and_accessories/parakeet_cages/41349... is it ok to have a wood cage...?... ps oscar is a little chattier..not a lot...but still waiting patiently...:)

Thats a lovely cage! Great choice!
Just be aware that budgies will chew on wood so just keep an eye out for places they might chew through x

I would be worried about the wood parts, they could chew through it if they were determined. ;)

Wow that sure is a great cage,
I'm sure Oscar would appreciate a friend for when your not at home ect...
It's up to you, I'd go with a female tho because males seem to nip more when put with the same sex.

from the looks of it , the wire covers the wood on the inside - which is a good thing
but my question is what is the wire made of ? is it safe metal for birds?, just because its made as a bird cage doesn't mean its made safely
it says the wire color is Metallic Grey - - Is that just the color or is metallic paint used? if it is metallic paint then it's not safe, that has metal shavings in it. if the ad doesn't say what the wire is made of, i'd be contacting them and asking, making sure it is not galvanized metal, making sure there is no zince, or lead in it and making sure the wood is natural and not painted or sealed with any thing, if it is then that makes it unsafe

Attractive cage!:) Yes Oscar would probably like a friend and I think either sex is fine. As far as the bonding issue I can't be of much help because my newest is still in quarantine. I'm anxious to see how it goes when they are together.
I was concerned about Pippin becoming less bonded with me too, but the conclusion I came too is even if it changes some I want whats best for Pippin, I'm sure she will still be plenty friendly as I hope Kalea will remain(we have been bonding during quarantine), and there is so much to enjoy about them even if the bond isn't as strong with another. Kalea is as bonded to me as Pippin at this point so I think the three of us will have great fun.
I think training them separately is probably easier than trying it together because they don't have the distraction of each other...except when they call to each other.

Nice cage, Anjie! Yes I think Oscar would like to have a friend. It is so nice to have two or more budgies chattering and making the pretty birdie noises. I have two budgies and I am still training them. They will want to interact with each other, yes. But they might also compete for your attention I am sure!

I think getting him a partner, no matter what sex, would be a great idea. My budgie got much more relaxed and accessible once he had a partner - but it seems, some people have made different experiences. Even if it may take you a little longer to tame him, I think you would do him a great favour. As for myself, I have four budgies now who have a great time together, but still I am their favourite playground...
