Jack and Maui (jan 2008) 1st

this is not about budgies, but I wanted to keep a record... I hope you don´t mind me posting in this budgie forum my tiels as well.....

they never were bonded at all... pretty much they just ignored each other until on dec. 31st I catched them mating, then again on
jan. 5 and only to find out a pretty egg on jan. 9th

so egg#1 was layed on jan. 9
two days later came egg # 2 (jan. 11)

I´ll add some pics of the couple as I upload them and if the eggs do hatch I´ll be adding pics of them as well ;)

but I have some sad news today both eggs were cracked and I think the guilty is Jack as I saw his taking a lil breakfast from one......:(

supposedly tomorrow is time for egg 3....let´s hope this one is fine.....

I could separate him, but remaining eggs would be infertile and I really want baby tiels.... so could I just wait and see and then after all have been laid separate him or just hope he behaves better......

egg three was layed jan 12... weird as it was supossed to be due on 13.... perhaps it was because she was replacing the eggs that were cracked......

I´m not sure it´s fertile as I haven´t "catched" them mating since the two first eggs were laid...... so far the egg is still "alive" ......so we´ll see.....

egg number 4 was laid on jan. 14...... so far so good...... still both are ok.....

mom is sitting on them quite a bit..... not 24/7 but she´s been on them regularly.... dad tries to sit too but mom is reluctant to move so they do a lil fight over that a lot of beaks banging on each other.....

I thought it was Jack feedign her but nope..... just beaks banging....*rollseyes*...

if everything goes good the next should be here tomorrow....*crosses fingers*

I believe the set back on the eggs and making them lay a day earlier might have a repercussion as I haven´t seen them mate....... but not sure...

well egg number 5 arrived on the 16th...... but sadly egg number 3 got cracked too...

I´m not sure what´s going on.... I wanna think somehow they were trying to clean them.... as egg 3 had a bit of poop on it.... I didn´t wipe it off as I didn´t wanted to damage it... but perhaps if I did all 5 were still there.. hmm.... *wonder*

so now I still have two eggs: number 4 and 5...

Do you have a concave bottom nest?Sometimes they crack them if they don't have a convave nest, mine did.

they do... more than a crack it´s like a too hard peck......like a tiny hole but the contents do leak out


number 4 got also a crack :( not sure who´s doing this....or why??

I still have egg number 5 and 6....... number 7 was layed on the 20th

this gives me 3 eggs out of 7..........until now......

maybe there nails keep on getting in them??? sometimes you just have birds that dont raise eggs

the three remaining eggs are still doing ok...

I attempeted to candle them.... but I had no clue on what I was doing or to look for...
(well I had a clue but not sure I did it right)

it seems no egg is fertile :( .....(I hope I missed something or really screwed up when looking)

either way I´ll wait till Feb 10 or so as last egg was laid on the 20th... so they have plenty of time for first one to hatch

as of today feb 6th. none of the eggs have hatched.... last egg was laid on the 20th (jan) so I assume the last one to hatch would probably be on around the 10th (feb)....

the sad part is that I "tried" candling them and they all seem "clear" if you know what I mean.... none of them seem opaque as a fertile egg should..... so my uess is none are fertile :( .....

next question is.... what do I do now??.... do I wait till the 10th or so? do I wait till she gets bored??.... or do I just take them out??.....

if any of these take action: will she lay another clutch or will she wait??...

I ask this because they haven´t mated since the first egg was laid and they still are not bonded at all.... they now can sleep side by side but that´s pretty muich it... daddy never laid on eggs... he attempted to but just didn´t LOL.. he just standed there watching and trying to roll them under his belly but then stepped out of the nest :p

well my guess was right none of the eggs hatched as of today... and the past 3 days Maui wasn´t "incubating" as she had been doing so I removed them today morning....

and also today they were mating again.... or at least trying *rollseyes*.... let´s see what happens now.....
