Today when i got home from work i noticed that Alfie had lost his long tail feathers. Both of them were on the floor in his cage. He is definatly molting at the minute so is it something to do with that? Also my brother said he saw him tugging on them but he dont really know anything about budgies. I thought he may have just been grooming himself. Do budgies generally loose their tail feathers while molting?

Yes, budgies will lose their tail feathers when moulting...it's not that common to lose both long ones, but it is still normal moulting. He was probably preening them and they were ready to come out..hence you saw them on the cage floor.:p

*nods* yes, its part of the normal molting process and there is not need to worry. ^^ he is just trying to get rid of those old feathers to bring on the new.

You can get him special food for when he's moulting, if you like. It has extra vites to nourish his new feather growth.:)
