I use these clear plastic mats. I don't know about using this in an aviary but I use it to protect the carpet under their cages. Also helps with clean up alot since I can easily dump the excess and throw them under hot water for clean up.

In my aviary, I use stuff called 'DRY BIRD', its a type of wood chipping, made for small brids like budgies and also other small animals, its a more hygienic version of saw dust and a lighter alternative of sand. Its very easy to clean up, very hygienic, light, comes in huge bags for aviaries, and its super absorbant!
Im going to stop advertising it now lol.
But thats what I use, as I think its cheaper and better in the long run. Im not sure where you can get it from though, I order it through a mate of mine.

I use news paper on the floors of my indoor flight pens.
I have a friend who uses pine shavings.
Others I have known use butcher paper on their floors.
