Bugs and Echo

Well here are the two budgies I am trying to breed. Theyve been together since they were really young. Bugs(male) is really interested in the nest box, and I noticed Echo(female) spending more of her time inside, since I removed all the distractions. Here are some pictures(they are a little blurry):

Wow!! both are recessive pieds i think!! Adorable! you'll be getting alot of yellows :D! Echo's colours are great!

Yeah Bugs is recessive, but me and another person determined that Echo is a dominant pied spangle. you can see that she seems spangle in this pic(taken when I first got her about 16 months ago)

Just an update, I am expecting some eggs here in a little while. Echo's droppings are getting pretty large, and her vent in a little swollen.

Yep Im really excited, 2nd egg was layed today. One quick question though, do you think it would be ok to number the eggs with a sharpe marker? The only reason I wouldnt think they would work is because, first of all Ive read that your suppose to use a pencil, and second the marker has a strong smell to it, and I dont know if that would irritate the hen. What do you think?

you must be so excited! :D As for the sharpie, I'm not quite sure, but I don't think that would be a very good think to do. I'd advise you to get some more opinions before you decide! :)

she stopped at 7, the first should be due on the 21st, but Im almost positive that one wont hatch.

^^yep, but I doubt the first will hatch, it looks a little weird. Even though I didnt number the eggs, I can tell which one the first one is, because it doesnt look like any of the others.

The 2nd egg layed hatched today. it only took 17 days instead of 18, and that one was suppose to hatch tomorrow. Oh and the first egg layed didnt hatch.

yep I will try to get pics soon, its just pretty hard because the female figured out when she leaves the nest sometimes that I will check inside, and she hops right back on top of the eggs/chick.

I guess those opportunities for photo shoots would be pretty limited; it sounds like your hen is being a good mommy, wanting to protect her little offspring. ;)

It'll be great to see pictures when you can manage to sneak some! :)

haha ok so here they are. There are now 3 that have hatched! And 3 of the other eggs look fertile. I have need to help them with feeding eventually. They are doing a good job of it now though.

haha, not a problem. egg #4 hatched today. the first one that hatched is getting pretty big.

you shouldn't have to help them feed the babies unless something happens where she can no longer do it. hens have been known to raise 9 eggs if necessary on their own. An average clutch size is 4-6 which they can usually manage to raise and feed just fine as long as they are good parents.

first of all my apologizes for not keeping all of you updated on the 6 chicks my budgies had awhile back.well the chicks are doing great, two chicks are going to their new homes today! im fortunate enough to have found 3 people that want to take two, so this way the chicks will have at least one budgie friend, and they will stay together.anyways here are some updated pics:
