How do you go about teaching budgies to talk? I've had five budgies so far and not one of them can talk, or even mimic sounds! How do you do it?

All I have read is repitition, repitition, repitition. I have also read that not all budgies can talk. Kiki is only a couple months old and I am hoping she will talk eventually. I hear new noises from her almost everyday. I have heard that the budgies most likely to talk are green males.

We had a green male once. He never talked though. :p Well I'm going to try with our baby Vegas. Hopefully he'll talk someday.

I have heard that if you have multiple birds or even a mirror in a cage the birds will talk to each other (they think their reflection is another bird) and will be a lot less likely to learn to talk.

That's very true. And unfortunately, we have two budgies, and they have plenty of mirrors. And Vegas loves to talk to the mirrors!

Blinkie can only say one word - Kissy. I taught him this when he was a little baby by saying kissy kissy kissy over and over again while we were playing. I'm sure i could've taught him more but i was too lazy. He can mimic tons of noises too - kiss, dripping water, farts.....not sure where he picked that one up.

I read its not good to use a recorder cause its not ur voice (store bought tapes i asume) so i burned a cd that said Pretty Bird (start off simple) for 20 minutes so when i leave for work i can turn it on and leave and when i get home i turn it on again. I used my own voice through a mic onto the comp then copied it 20 to the same cd took about 5 minutes ill let u no if it works or not in a month. The great thing about this is i can adjust the volume loud enough for bird to hear it well, not get tired of saying the same thing, and its said at the same tone over and over so the bird wont get confused. But like i said ill let u no if it works

It normally will not work if you have two budgies together because they will speak budgie language and not 'human'!(Well its still budgie language, they just mimic human sounds.)

I've never had a budgie that talked because I've always had many birds at the same time and was interested in breeding. I always hand trained all my baby birds before I either sold them or decided to keep them for later breeding purposes, however. Once, years back, I ended up with a single male and wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with him. My girlfriend begged for him and I gave him to her.

For several months, she paid a lot of attention to him and talked to him constantly. Then, she got a puppy and the bird didn't get nearly the attention he was used to getting. The puppy was named Patches. Well, sure enough, one morning, out of the blue, the bird, Harvey, started talking. His "talking" consisted of whistling for the dog, calling the dog's name, barking like the dog, and then saying my girlfriend's favorite expression.....Oh S--T." Imagine..."A whistle, Patches, woof woof woof, Oh, S--T" over and over and over. Every day for the rest of his life.

Yes well first of all budgies are difficult to teach human words unlike other larger birds. I have one that talks but it took a really long time until he had learned. First you have to purchse a young budgie of 2-3 months of age. After that you must spend time talking to the budgie in a quiet room so he's not distracted. Do not try teaching the budgie long words start out with short words like "hey" or "bye" or his name.after a few months he should pick it up. I hope all works well but its challenging

A budgie will learn to talk best if it is 1. Male (so i have learnt) and 2. If it is a single budgie.
(I have taught my parrot to blow kisses :) )

I've always had budgies in pairs. None of them learned to talk. But one of my budgies, his name was Sky, learned to mimic household sounds. He could mimic the telephone ringing, and the squeak of the backdoor perfectly. I think he thought he was pretty funny, tricking us humans like that. He also learned how to mimic songs that were whistled to him. But he never picked up on talking.

Aww that sounds funny! It's a shame he never spoke.

I have taught Bobby to talk, just by repeating again and again the words that I want him to learn! I started with a whistle, when I heard him mimic that (A very exciting day! :D ) I started with words, just short words over and over again, for about 5 - 10 mins at a time, a few times a day! His first words were "Whatcha doin" which wasn't what I was trying to teach him, but he picked it up cause that's what we said everytime he landed on or near us! (I was trying to teach him hello!) He now says that and hello, and Bobby and I love you! He is constantly chatting away because I talk to him all the time. I am constantly having conversations with him, and he now chatters away, and then I hear a recognisable word.

Bobby is only 5 - 6 months old and I have had him since he was about 6 weeks old! He is sitting on my glasses at the moment playing with my eyelashes! Very weird feeling and makes it very hard to see!!! :D

I bought a mirror for 20$ and it records your voice ....to say whatever you want and has a cup for treats...its says your message every time the Kimmi gets a treat its motion detected I hope this works.
