Best location for budgie cage?

I haven't yet bought my first budgie but am trying to think of everything beforehand. One question is whether I should put my budgie's cage in front of a window or not. I'm going to be putting plastic over my windows this winter for weatherproofing so chill air shouldn't be a problem. However the window I have in mind gets direct sunlight. Might this be a problem? (I'm sure I'll have to move the cage in the summer because then the sunlight would definitely be too hot. )

Also the table on which I was hoping to put the cage is directly next to my computer monitor. I remember reading that it's bad to put the cage too near the TV. Is the same true for a computer monitor?

It is not advised to put Birds in front of windows, I've got bird cages on both sides of my t.v. One houses a Quaker and one houses 4 Tiels, and I've had no problems

Keep the cage away from all drafts, including heating & Air Vents, Doors ( don't put it near a door that get's opened/ closed alot),windows etc.

I would agree with what has been said - however i do have our cages by the window during the day & at night they are well away, but the view is NE. Here the temps can really plummet at night & in the summer the air conditioner is too close + the light is disturbing for them.

By having the cages by the window they have plenty to look at & i often find them on the window sill gazing down at all the activity on the street. A friend of mine has hanging Boings or Atoms [ swing & climbing hanging structures] by her windows & her birds love them.

If your window area is very bright you might want to make sure they can hide from the heat/sun. Any 'drafts' should be avoided but a gentle breeze is OK if again they can get away. Our birds are out all day but they use their cages as play gyms & as feeding stations.

Large cages are great if your bird is in it a lot or all the time. Our cages are quite small - so we move them around a lot - lots of locations.

Billie doesn't spend a whole lot of time in his cage ( :rolleyes: LOL!) but I have his cage in my bedroom under the window.
I have a veranda outside my window, so the window does not get direct sunlight, and during the day there is quite a bit of shade, while still allowing plenty of light in the room.

I haven't had any problems, and Billie loves being able to see outside. :)

I wouldn't think placing the cage next to the computer monitor would hurt your Budgie. I have 5 Budgies in the room near my monitor but they aren't staring into it. In fact, my cages are probably 2 feet away from the screen. I assume your cage will be beside the monitor and not near the front of it where the glare is bright. I have never heard of anything dangerous about a bird being near a computer monitor though.

If anyone else knows better, please feel free to say something. I am only giving my opinion on this one because I haven't heard anything otherwise. I know a lot of people on the forum have their Budgies on their shoulder or by the keyboard while they are using the computer and I've never heard of any reported health problems because of it.

You might not want your Budgie too close to your monitor for the sake of seed and hulls being thrown out by your Budgie or regurgitating of seed that might land on the screen. Hehehe. Sorry if I grossed
you out but it does happen! :eek:

My little guy is sitting a bit away from my computer, about two to three feet. Only my monitor is facing a different direction then my budgie, so he can't see the screen, but rather the side of it, if that makes sense.
However, his cage is really small at the moment and I'm in the process of begging for a larger one (for not just my spoiled little man, but hopefully another budgie or two in the coming months :)).
Once I get the larger cage, I, too, have been worried about placement. I worried about the window at first, thinking that Attie could potentially not know it's glass and hurt himself flying against it. As of yet, he's not seen a window. I've had the blinds down when he's flying about.

All my budgies are near the windows, but they are draft-free. The budgies enjoy looking out. :)
