Hey my name is Francesca, Cesca for short. I got a budgie named Kiwi about 3 days ago, and although I can understand his shyness, he won't make a sound. Do any of you know if that is because he is still adjusting? Is there such thing as a mute budgie? Replies are greatly appreciated. :budgie:

He's probably just still scared. Try talking to him softly and maybe whistling a bit. Spend time near the cage. Is he eating ok and everything?

He seems to be eating fine, I haven't seen him drink, but I heard that they don't drink a whole lot. Thanks for the reply.

Totally normal...hes still adjusting. Give him a few more days and im sure he will perk up and maybe want to come out of his cage.
You've got lots to look forward to!

I meant to tell you what a great name Kiwi is! I myself have a budgie named Kiwi...he's the most mellow of my current 3 budgies.
And yes, just be patient. It can take a couple of weeks for a budgie to become more comfortable in their new surroundings. If after several weeks (say 6-8) he still hasn't adjusted, then I would consider getting another budgie to keep him company. That's what I had to do with my budgie Skyla. She didn't adjust at all to being by herself so I got her a friend (Kiwi) and she perked right up!! :p

Thanks budgiekin. Good News! Today then kiwi started hopping around his cage and singing. :) By the way, your Kiwi looks almost exactly like my Kiwi. That's Ironic lol. Also I was wondering if you knew what that specific coloring Kiwi is, does it have a certain name

I think our Kiwis would simply be called normal greens...not very exciting, but they are so adorable nonetheless. Cheers to our Kiwis!!:p
