OKay so this is the first time in 10 years or so that I have actually looked at breeding budgies again, I started a new job three weeks ago, still working in the restaurant game but its Monday to Friday day only, no splt shifts, no 12 to 16 hour days with both plenty of time to spend with both my partner and all of my budgies :budgie:
Okay so after a througher vet check on both birds, a worming session and an increase in fruit, vegies, and calcium both Violet and Cole have practically begged me to unblock to nest box.....Violet has been chewing her way through the wooden plug trying to get in

okay to start we have the breeding cage, basic setup two wooden perches of varying thickness, cuttlebone, there is an iodine block in there to but she keeps pulling it off the side of the cage

Sorry I know the photo is alittle dark

Then we have the happy couple

and the happy couple together!!!

I will keep you all posted on there progress, it is still early days as yet, the plug has been out for about three hours now and she still hasnt ventured into the box but she will in time.

The pair have bonded and feed, preen and have been seen mating on the few odd occasions, like at anytime of the day!!!!!!

Hope you all enjoy, I have my fingers crossed and wait for some egg action with baited breath.

Thanks for reading.

my guess was green babies as well, but cole is split ino..Violet also has a breeder ring on her leg and I have been in contact with the breeder and he has informed me that Violet is infact a cinnamon wing dilute violet from a cinnoman wing cobolt fallow father and violet normal mother, she hatched on the 17th August 2006.
He went on to say that he wouldnt have put a green male across her, but like I said to him I didnt have a choice they choose each other.
I suppose when you look at it, Cole split ino and Violet split fallow! For those of you who arent to familiar with Fallows they are budgies that look like a normal budgie but have a plum/red coloured eye.
Thanks for all the posts guys, I will definatly keep you all informed and will post as many pics as I can get.....
Oh by the way Cole went into the nestbox today, spent about a minute in there made a few calling noises then jumped out, on to Vi and then started pushing her towards the box, it obviosly got the okay from him, now we both just need to get her into it. :p

that would be awsome to see dilute green, cinnamon, follow babies!!!! Probably just green normals and cinnamon green babies though. with females Split ino? Follow is recessive right? Not sure just guessing! Either way this outta be a interesting pair....keep us updated!! Good luck. keep the pix comming!

Thanks, at the moment I would just be stoked to get some babies again....Cole has been spending alot of his time trying to get her into the nest box, she gets her head in then shoulders then backs off, she is getting more and more interested in it though and with the poops getting bigger things are looking promising.

okay guys we finally got it, SHE has entered the nest box....It was only for a matter of seconds...like in and then out butshe has done it now :p
Cole is being a great husband, he has started eating all his veges, egg and biscuit mix and soak mix and seems to have cut down his seed intake by half and is drinking plenty of water to help the production of crop milk.
Violet is bathing like crazy, she is rolling in the veges before Cole starts eating and now seems to wait at the side door waiting for her morning and afternoon mist bath. Thankfully she has stopped bathing in the drinking dish  she hates the birdie bath that I put in there for them, it now has become her poop bath, 3 changes a day is driving me insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is some photo's of the happy couple for you all to look at.
Please keep watching....

okay well things are going slow here, we had a major disruption the other day when the boof head partner left the window open and the local pidgeons got into the house and scared the living daylights out of my babies. Violet and Cole are in the top cage which was the one that was most disturbed, the nest box got sent flying (the door that the box attaches too has an automatic closer if the box is removed) it has scared Violet off the box again, so this one may be going for awhile.. I have also had to split the whole flock up as the hens have all come into breeding condition and Ali and Fee have been fighting over the same male (Buffy)
Fee one out as I would really like Ali and Lewi to pair up so unfortunatly it will be forced love for them.

okay wll the reason that this thread hasnt been updated is due to several reasons..
1- After the pidgeons got in a knocked the box and cage over Violet went out of season, which all in all was a good thing as we oved house three weeks later and I wasnt looking forward to trying to shift a nest full of eggs or babies. Two weeks before we moved my Grandmother took ill so we fly to Brisbane to see her and say our goodbyes. We got home on the sunday night and I found that my Fee was very very sick, My friend that looks after the birds when ever we go away had taken her to the vet and got the antibiotics but they didnt seem to be working, so she was back to the vets on Monday morning, by this stage she was in a bad way and the vet said that the best thing to do was to put her down...... I pulled her out of the carry cage to say goodbye and placed her on the table where she then slowly and weakly hopped over to me and climbed up my shirt to under my chin, she sat there for about 5 mins before she had a fit of sorts and passed away snuggled into my neck :( . I had an autopsy done to see what was wrong only to find out that she had contracted a virus which is common in pidgeons!!!!!!!! So all birds had to be treated for the virus just to be on the safe side, which has worked as no more of my babies have gotten sick. Then on the sunday a week after we got home we were lunching with my Aunt and got a phone call from my parents to tell me that my grandmother had passed away so we were up in Brisbane again for a week!!!!! We then had to move house finish the christmas shopping and then fly back to New Zealand to spend time with my partners family for a week then in Brisbane to be with mine for another week, and then finally home to finish setting up the new house, needless to say that the only thing that was set up of course was my babies!!!!!!!
Afetr being in the new house for a week getting sorted, settling the babies back into a normal my way routine, neither Violet or Cole seem to be interested in breeding again just yet, Buffy and Ali looked promising but then the stress of the move and medication threw Ali into a very heavy moult which has now been going for about 2 and a half weeks.. Lewi also started moulting and seemed to be very lonely as the other 4 were still strongly bonded, so I went to the breeder and found him Lucy, my to my partners disgust!!!!!!!!! But Lucy is also a lovely Lutino who is 18mths old and just comming into season...Fingers crossed that the weather stays mild or all my birds will go into another moult..... So thats really it for now, it also explains my absence from the site for quiet sometime..... Thanks
