View Full Version : Should I be concerned?
Pippins' breath always smells funky-- is it a concern, or is it just because he's young? He's got lots of energy, eats well, happy, eyes look clear and bright, no discharges-- the only thing is that whenever he nibbles my nose, his breath smells a little unusual. Anyone know if there's a reason for that?

Well, budgies do have an interesting smell...I can't quite describe it, but it is normal, especially if your budgie is otherwise healthy. I only noticed this with Apollo, but that was because he was the only budgie who would let us close enough to him to even smell him.

can you be more specific with the smell. Is it a sour smell or sweet . Budgies are notorious for hiding symptons of illness.
Just make sure you have clean water and feed. I'm not saying you don't but seed that has got wet can develop spores of mould that birds injest and this can cause problems with the lungs and can give a steange smellto their breath.
Then again it maybe as you said nothing to worry about just keep a close eye on him
It's definitely not sweet, but it's not sour either. It's just unusual-- like... what I would imagine, bird baby food, would smell like-- except I've never smelled bird baby food. And it's really, really faint. I'm not overly worried, but I will keep an eye on him. Thanks.
