Mites!!!

HI!!! I have a question and would value the feedback.. I have read that birds can get mites, what and where do the mites come from. Or should i say how do they get them, as well as what can i do to prevent them.. whew.. I had a lizard who had gotten mites from the water bowl i bought from a pet store and they were EVERYWHERE...:eek:

yeah, they do get mites but the mites wont just spread in your house, its isnt likely to happen, cleanliness is important as well as making sure anythng new u get is clean as well and if u get a new bird make it undergo quarantine to make sure it isnt carryng mites or else it will make ur birds infected too.

That's why it is so important to throughly was with soap and water stuff you get at the pet shops. Remember they will bug bomb their stores to kill mites and roaches. Your animals don't need to be eating/drinking/playing with items that have this resideu. Also has your example shows that cleaning will also get rid of eggs from these pests.

Keeping your birds in an outdoor aviary with bird seed is a great way to encourage wild birds around and them sharing the little critters they are carring.
