A lot of communities have small animal shelters around here. Although Toronto has many big shelters (sadly) I had to drive out of town to Birlington, about 45 minute drive on the Highway. That would have been OK but this is a great Holiday weekend for us & the people in the US. So the Highways were crazy - luckily I had my map book, detoured like mad & was able to get to the shelter before it closed - it took 1 1/4 hrs to get there - 10 min. before closing!

Here is a shot of his back - but you can't see the indigo tail with white under tail feathers. His blue is all over the place - it seems aqua, then cobalt, & some ultramarine or purple near his neck.

Could you give me some info about the shelter, such as a phone number or the location or the actual name? Thanks

Wow! I can't believe you got him from a shelter! What happened to him originally?

I was looking at the petfinder ads (like on a weekly basis): http://search.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi?action=1&pet.Animal=Bird&pet.Breed=&pet.Age=&pet.Size=&pet.Sex=&location=M9A+4X8&preview=1&scope=2&x=16&y=13.
They post a lot of the shelter birds. He was at the Birlington Animal Shelter.

The Shelter didn't have a lot of info on him. Apparently he was a foundling. Then he was adoped out, but the lady brought him back, saying that she had intended to give him as a gift but it wasn't going to work out. Well whatever he has put up with he's still a sweet bird & intelligent. We think he picked up some Finch speak at the shelter. :) and my husband thinks he speaks Chickadee too.
