Hi everyone!

Lily and Billy are nearly breeding and I was wondering what time of year the female would lay, how long would she sit and when the eggs would begin to hatch.

If anyone knows any of these things PLEASE help me.:D

Lily has been making visits to the nest box to have a peek around more regularly and her cere is turning darker brown and his is going bright blue. They are reguratating loads too!

Also do females get larger when about to lay? Lily is looking slightly bigger, is this normal?

I thought that Billy and Lilly were still too young to breed.:S

No, their 1 year and 4 months old. It must have been someone else.

I think you were thinking of miss_missy's budgies.

Oh ok then! :) Well Lilly will get slightly larger around her vent a day or so before she begins to lay. There isn't really a season in captivity that budgies breed in because it's so so easy to mimic the right environment. They'll need at least 10 hrs light a day and should have cuttlebone and fresh veggies constantly available. It should take about 10 days from mating to laying and then she'll start laying an egg every other day until she has a finished clutch (anywhere from 3-8 eggs). Hope that helps. :)

Thanks! How wide should the nestbox hole be?????

For budgies, you'd want the nest box hole to be about 2 inches in diameter. (And don't forget to have an access door - or an "inspection door" too so you can check on what's going on inside the nest box!)

Don't rush breeding they can become egg bound if they are not healthy enough or too young.
