Well this is pretty Tami......

And this is cute Bou.......

And here's one of them together......
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e356/silvertundraunicorn/DSC00175.jpg

They've had two egg's so face one of it got cracked (I think tami was a little confused as to what it was but now she is sitting nicely on her new egg.

It's been almost two days since she layed so she should lay another one this morning.:)

I think my other pair Cooler, and Spartan might have an egg also, I'd like Ollie to wait a year she's one now and I just want to make sure she's good, and mature

hey jessie can I ask what sort of box she is in.. I cant see a concave in the bottom which would help her to keep them all in the one spot and help her sit better... It may also stop her from scattering them and or breaking them.

They are gonna be beautiful babies with such a gorgeous mum & dad! :)

Jessie
10-23-2007, 11:40 AM
sorry there was a misunderstanding about that, there was a convave bottom insert but it fell off, and I was looking for it, but she layed an egg before i found find it, I found it yesterday morning. It's in there now I'll send you a pick later.:)

Jessie

Here's the real nest all settled in, and a third egg!Yay!
One got dentedthat was my fault cause I was still looking for the bottomwhen she started laying eggs(He dropping were big for one day before she layed an egg, i was told it was supposed to be a week). And an angry mama telling me to go away:) (thats care fresh beddng, its ver odor resistant)

Jessie
10-23-2007, 04:52 PM
Thanks. My only worry is that they haven't bred, Tami and him were very friends before, but ever since she's been a bit mean to him, even for a few days before she layed an egg, I hope he had a chance to mate her. She's not too bad but if she doesn't want him near she'll tell him. She's always been so hard core like that.

Well only time will tell, but hopefully they will hatch. I wonder what they'll look like?

Jessie

The fourth egg came out today:) She's looking nice and healthy. The first egg is due on Nov.7

Jessie
10-29-2007, 06:05 PM
She's laid 6 now. But I'm not sure it they're fertile. I don't think they are, I don't see any red veins. Maybe she wouldn't let Bou mate her:(

Jessie
10-29-2007, 08:53 PM
I FINALLY GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yay I watched the candling video but for some reason it just didn't click. Now I understand you have to aim the light behind the egg and look at the other side. I was looking at the side that the light was on. And yay red veins, or what I believed to be red veins. Wahoo!!!!!!I wonder how many will hatch, she has six for now. She's getting soooo good witth letting my in her nest box she'll even lick my hand. i'm soooo happy. I think she'll make a fabulous mother.:)

Here's some picks I just took:

Woohoo! Form the pictures I can see wo fertile eggs but I am not 100% sure. Congratulations. Are you deciding names yet?

Jessie
10-30-2007, 05:27 PM
I haven't decided on any yet I'll probably pick umm based on colour and personality. It theres less then two that are fertile then I'm going to keep them, but if there's more then two I'll just keep one.

UPDATE
I just counted it looks like:) three are fertile

Pippi
10-31-2007, 03:41 AM
see thats why I dont bred anymore I find it so hard to get rid of any of them.... I just get so attached to them all and my partner will just go nuts if I have anymore than 6, I have only just been allowed to look for number six......

Jessie
10-31-2007, 08:13 AM
lol I know its going to be hard. i think this is the only ones I'm gonna breed. it sounds mean but next year I'll have to seperate the males and females.

7 days left YAY!

Bad news though, One of my hens from another cage got out and Tami was in her breeding cage and they somehow got into a fight between the bars. Spartan(the other bird) didn't get hurt much, just a few boody pecks on the foot, but Tami got some really hard pecks on her feet, real bloody. I'm giving her an antibiotic and I cleaned the wound but i can tell her feet are very soar. Her mate is also not in there with her because he can annoy her sometimes and I need her to rest. I'll have to wait a few days till i'm sure she's better:(

Jessie

YAY!!!!!!!!!The first baby was born today!Tami's nest box is pretty dirty will that effect the chick? Anyways heres some pics.

I am sooooooo excited, I don't even know if any more are going to hatch. My other four birds besides Tami, and Bou are sick so I have to keep them seperated. I'm lucky they didn't get it too!

budgiriotic
11-11-2007, 09:50 AM
Oh , im sorry your birds are sick although its good tami and bou are fine :) What ave the others got?!

Jessie
11-11-2007, 10:19 AM
We don't really know. I might have to get some crop swabs, or blood tests . At first there was congestion in the lungs, so my vet said take baytril for 7 days, the congestion was gone but she was still fluffed and breathing hard, so another 7 days after that, which is yesterday we got some clavamox to see if there is a urinary infection, or intestinal infection, But I was too late in seperating her and now the other birds have it. My bird vet is very good so I don't understand why he doesn't do a crop swab or something like that.

11-11-2007, 10:37 AM
I'm sure they will be fine, so how's ur little bub doing?

Jessie
11-11-2007, 10:59 AM
He's doing great my dad took some nice shorts I'll upload them in a couple of minutes. His crop is alwas full and she always has him under her wing with his little head sticking out sometimes. Shes a great mom. He already has little white feathers on his butt. His rear end is kind of darker then the top half is that normal. Not much just kinda purpley. I've decided that if its a girl I'll name it Alexia, ad if its a boy.........I'm sure yet. The nest box is pretty dirty but I don't wanna disturb the baby

Alexia is soo cute! But what makes u think she a girl?!lol!? anyway shes terribly cute and...I WANT HER!! lol! I see u still have her egg shell in there, i suggest u remove it since sometimes if it has a hard edge it can hurt baby birds, i have read a story of someone whom his chick died from an egg shell, it would be safer to get rid of it :)

Jessie
11-15-2007, 12:12 PM
Well if shes not a girl I'll just call her Alexi, lol I thought Tami was going to eat the shell but I guess not I'll remove it when I get home, thanks for the tip

Jessie
11-16-2007, 03:47 PM
I don't think Piper's going to make it hes really tiny, like really small. The pet stores out of chick feeding formula, moms been feeding but hes really small

budgiriotic
11-17-2007, 04:47 AM
You can prepare your own formula at home by the way, butim not really sure right now, i think its something like warm milk, search over the forum or by google and ull find out, at least try to help him he really might do it and amaze you , i hope he does :)

Jessie
11-17-2007, 01:26 PM
His mommy is still feeding him alot, so i don't really have to, his crop is always full. Surprisingly hes still alive but he is like half the size Alexia was when she was born

Budgietom
11-17-2007, 08:34 PM
Congratulations on the new chick!

11-17-2007, 08:49 PM
The difference in size that a few days can make is really something. If the new one was roughly the size of the egg then it was an okay size. You should see it get larger each day. It is good to keep an eye out to make sure it is being fed since its older sibling is so much bigger.

And yes, clean the box. I had two identical boxes and just did a quick swap into the clean box, then cleaned the dirty one to be ready for the next change. As long as I put the clean box exactly where the other one was, there was no problem. The hen knew something was a little different but did go back in and look after the chicks. Whether or not a swap works for you would depend on the hen. If it doesn't appear to, at least you would have the opportunity to clean the first one while you are watching to see what happens.

You could also just put the chicks into a cozy container that they cannot get out of while you quickly clean the box.

11-18-2007, 07:45 AM
First off I'm sorry for the lack of photos lately but I have a 2500 word essay due on monday and I'm been busy with work and it all weekend!:)

Palomino-thanks!I wanted to clean the nest box out but i didn't want to disturb the new one, I'll clean it out this morning:) I hope Piper does survive, I'm pretty sure he will. The first few days he wasn't looking so good but today hes looking
better with a nice round stomach. On the first day of Pipers birth when I notice he was small, I took out Alex for 30 or so to make sure mama got a chance to feed Piper, after that I've had no trouble with him being unfed.

Touchofelegance- I just got it from our local pet store, I would've rather got a wooden one but this ones okay, its not that big so I'm glad only two of the chicks hatched lol, I didn't realized that it wasn't that big until she started laying, Its got a side opening door which is cool, I'll get some pics and send them to you later

Squeak-lol ya something like that, I'm hoping it'll be a girl though cause I reallllyyy like the name. I told my dad I'd give him one of the babies but now I'm attached to them, I was thinking about getting a young one from the pet store, and being like "heres the baby dad" lol just joking
