hi,
i bought 3 chinese (button) quail 5 months ago. I got what i thought was 2 females and 1 male, and they all lived happily together in my aviary. but 2 months ago i found out that one of my "females" was actually a male. the 2 males started fighting over the female as it is mating season. so i took one of my males out of the aviary and put it in a separate cage. i swap the males round every week so they both can see the female. They all seem to be quite happy, the only problem is that the females lower quarters is going bald, as she has too much male attention.
is there any way the males would get on together once mating season has finished.
and also is there anything i could do for my female (her bald lower quarters).

I dont think you can do anything for your female, but wait until her feathers grow back. I think your males will get on after breeding season is over, anyone else?

I don't really know whay you could do but just wait, like Kelly said. I have 2 chinese quail called Mickey and Minnie at the bottom of the aviary. They have also laided 5 eggs! :)

I also had the button quail in the aviary. I thought I had 2 boys and 2 girls, but ended up all girls. they never stopped laying eggs. between the 4 of them they laid about 15 to 20 eggs per week. With this many eggs and all of them unfertilized, I would boil them and mash them up and feed back to the birds. (a trick I got from the breeder) It was very nutritious and easy to mash, shells and all after cooking. They loved it!

wow, I didn't know quail could be kept as pets. We use them for other purposes at the Wildlife centre I work at, unfortunately. Can anyone post pictures? I'm curious!
