Lil Dude and Babe passed away a few weeks ago.

I am a first time owner and have not been on here in a while because I am so ashamed :( , I left a candle burning in my front room and two days later my babies died. I have since got a new budgie (kiwi) :budgie: I will post pics later.

I can't seem to get over this fear something is wrong with him or I am going to wake up and he'll be dead. Anyone else ever feel this way?

You know what 2 of my budgies were killed last year because I accidently left the door ajar and the cats got in knocked down the cage and killed my bird. I blamed myself alot and thought I was an aweful person. But now whenever I go out I chec my room for cats and I'll never let it happen again. It was a mistake and yours was to so don't be angry at yourself cause I'm sure your birds are looking down at you and smiling knowing you gave them a great life. Mine are too!I'm sorry for your loss, and excited that you can start a new adventure.

I am so sorry to hear this. Do you know for sure that it was the candle?

I am pretty sure it was the candle...we are selling our house and the day someone was coming to look at it I lit a Yankee Candle Jar and left it burning all day. It was sented and never thought the scent would hurt them. I had heard to keep them away from the flame, but someone told me the oil the candle omits is bad. two days later they died. They each were in their own cage at the bottom breathing heavy. So my best guess is that was it.

I am very sorry about Lil Dude and Babe. It probably was the candle but it truly was an accident. There are so many things we need to be cautious of and sometimes we can't think of everything or we don't always know what is hazardous. I just recently lost a baby Budgie over something crazy my husband did and we never dreamed it would cause a death. I know how awful you feel but we just have to try and go on, don't we? I'm just glad you're back on the forums.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about Kiwi and I hope you'll post some photos soon.

RIP Lil Dude and Babe.

I'm so sorry, peachkeet. That's so sad. You are probably right that it was the candle, but it wasn't your fault, it was an accident. As Donna said, there are a lot of things you need to be careful with with budgies. I'm sorry. It's great that you are back on Talk Budgies.

I am sorry that your birds died. But accidents do happen. Nobody on this forum wakes up thinking: "Today I am going to kill my birds." But sometimes things go terribly wrong.

I know the feeling of constantly being afraid for their health. I took my Schnappi to the vet all the time. I was always hoping the vet would say: "It is nothing, the bird is healthy." Unfortunately, it was always something.

I think it is normal for you to be somewhat paranoid after all you have been through. It will be a while before you can relax again,

take care,
Sigrid :budge:

I'm so sorry for your loss. It was an accident! Accidents happen so that we can learn from them. Remember that!

I am so sorry for your loss, but I hope you have gained some comfort from what others have said. They are right in saying that it wasn't your fault. I hope that you can put it down to experience and learn from your mistake. Of course, nothing will replace dear Lil Dude and Babe, but they will know that they were much loved budgies and that they will be remembered forever.

RIP little ones, fly free.

You poor poor person. I am truly sorry for your loss. I know it was just a mistake and everyone makes mistakes. We're all human. I just hope that your new bird will give you much comfort. RIP Babe and Lil Dude.
