: Is my budgie a boy or girl???

Hi I was just wondering if anyone knows if my budgie is a boy or girl? I have noticed that most baby budgies have a white cere but mine has a bright pink cere. Does this give a clue as to if it is a boy or girl?

Thanks....

Is it a lavender color?

Sometimes its hard to tell what gender budgies are when they're babies, maybe wait a few weeks.

I'm pretty sure you know but:

Boys usually have blue, or Light colored Lavender (Usually white budgies have lavender),

Females have usually a brownish color.

It looks like a girl when you click on the pic to make it bigger. If shes over a year i'd say female, males go blue

Hmm. I believe it could be a female, my birdie Skye, whom passed away, was white and blue just like yours, his cere was lavender (Yours seems lavender also)

He/she might be a girl, but to me, I think its a boy :p

How long does it take for the cere to turn blue or brown?

I think he is a male because recessive pied males have pink ceres rather than blue :) He's really cute!

Your budgies cere won't turn blue. :D Recessive pied males keep their cute pink ceres forever.

Yeah, pied varities dont change the colour of thier cere to brown or blue, they stay the same thier whole life, they get no iris rings either. The way to tell the difference is if the cere is purpley then its male and if its pinkish its a female :). I own 3 pied budgies since i love how they look!. Hope this was of help :)..

Wow I never knew that Snowpea was from the pied varitey. Brown9944 said that if the cere was purply then Snowpea is a male. but when I look at him closely his cere is bright pink. I am still not sure if Snowpea is male or female but you guys are making me think Snowpea is a boy. Thank you everyone who commented on my bird. Please keep on posting your comment as to whether snowpea is a boy or girl.

Not entirely true. Females of ANY mutation will always get a brown cere. As babies females have pale blueish/white ceres. Males of ANY mutation begin with a solid pink/purple cere with no white. Most get a blue cere with the exception of recessive pieds (like Snow Pea :) ) and inos. Here's a photo of a young male and female budgie, you can see the difference in their ceres.

Although I am not an expert, I would also say he's a boy.
