View Full Version : Youngest possible age to separate chick from parents.
The chick is 41 days (almost a month and a half) old, and I put it in its' own cage, next to the Mom's cage. Is it still too young to be on its' own? It seemed upset with the change. Is that to be expected, or should I return it to its' Moms' cage?
I believe that should be fine, as long as he is eating and drinking on his own?
You have to leave them with the parents (dad is most important at this age) until you've seen that it's eating and drinking without getting fed by mum or dad. 6-8 weeks is the time that most baby budgies are weaned.
Dad got too aggressive several days ago, and I had to take him out, but baby's been eating and drinking on its' own for a few days and I haven't seen Mom feed it for a couple of days, however, it is quite skinny-- you think that's because I took dad out too early?
