When I was breeding a couple of years ago (before we stopped though we are starting again soon) We used to feed our budgies a variety of foods, these included:-

-Canary seed and japanese millet mixed (this was the main seed in their diet)
-Willow branches (though not food they stripped the bark and this was good for them)
-Cuttle fish bone
-Iodine blocks
-Oyster shell (tiny flakes of oyster shell, helped keep their beaks short, and a digestible grit)
-Seeded grass in summer (as they ate the grass seeds which was good for them)
-Apple segments
-Grated carrot
-Dried chillies (very very unlikely we gave them dried chillie but every few months)
-Red Millet
-Normal Millet
-Groats

And all the budgies would eat these, or most of them anyway.
So all those are good for your budgies, and they are all part of a very healthy diet, but If you do choose to give these to your budgies then don't over do it or stick to a few at a time along with the seeds and iodine block and cuttle fish.

(I try to get Agent to eat some of these but he refuses, but when he sees other budgies eating them he does, I seriously need to get him a friend.)

Thanks! I've tried alot of fruits and veggies to feed to Uno, but he would not touch any except for the millets. How did you get your budgies to eat them??

-Cheers

when there are many of them a few are curious enought to go and try then others will follow, the problem with only one bird is if they dont wnat to go have a look or are to scared they wont go near

With one budgie, I have found it helpful to offer their veggies in front of a mirror.....if your budgie sees the "other" budgie checking out the veggies, he may be more likely to check them out himself.....budgie see, budgie do

Also, don't give up just because your budgie doesn't eat the veggies for the first while. Patience and persistence are key here. Offer them daily even though they may not go near them for several days or weeks at a time.

How can apples kill your budgie?? I had a budgie who would eat a slice of apple every day and it lived for years.

that's right! although when I had my babies their faves were fresh corn (they went CRAZY) for it...and wet spinach leaves.

and keep them away from african violets if you have them; they're poisonous for budgies (and other pets too!)

Also, off the top of my head, mushrooms, avocado and eggplants aren't good either.

What about those plants called hens & chicks, are they safe to give to budgies?

On a site I found, it indicated that hens and chicks are nontoxic plants for budgies. Here's the link:

Great, I have a bunch of them, going to go pluck some leaves off and soak them, then rinse in vinegar and water then rinse well in water and see if they like it.
Trying to think of any other plants I have that I may beable to give them.

Oh, I noticed that on neither list they didn't have Crepe Myrtles, does anyone know if this is toxic or not?

We have 2 Camelia bushes in our yard, but I dare not go near them to try to get any branches out right now, Catbirds have nests in them, and if we go anywhere near them we get attacked lol. But once they move out, I will cut a few branches off the back side.

I just offered my budgies a chicken bone (thigh I think) with bits of meat on it. They loved it especially the cartilage ends where they were able to get at the marrow. Go figure.
