Hi ,I'm new here.
Wonder if anyone can advise,I have had my budgie 4 years but it is very nervous, in spite of my talking to him all the time he is very frightened when I go near his cage and flies from one perch to another,I don't know how old he is as I gave him a home when his owner had to go into nursing home.
The budgie I had previously was the opposite and would sit on my hand etc although I never got him to talk,he lived to the ripe old age of 16,
Is it toolate to try and tame my present one

you can try and tame it, it seems scared of humans or unsure, so you must try and reassure it that your not going to hurt it

Hey dotann! Welcome to the site :) . I know how you feel. My budgies can't calm down either. I'm having the same problem as you right now with Kansas and Vegas. :(

Hey Dotann! Welcome to the forums!
Try and spend loads of time with your budgie, try hand taming exercises aswell. My late budgie Bert was like this too, he was really nervous and timid at first. But after spending loads of time with him, hand taming him etc, he gained my trust and I fell in love with his personality. Just give your budgie time. Good luck!

Welcome to the site!

Try to work with your budgie when he is in a more quiet mood (like before bedtime for example). That way he won't be quite so hyper when you try to work with him. Be very patient too. Working with him frequently and for short periods of time is much more beneficial than trying to spend a long time less often. I recommend trying to tame him anywhere from 3-5 times a day for very short time periods (like no more than about 5-10 minutes each).

Using millet may help too. Place it in between your middle finger and thumb and use your index finger as a perch. If he likes millet enough, he may start by approaching it very cautiously until finally he gets some.

Let us know how he's doing!! :p
